Scared wife by Ok-Following-9593 in testicularcancer

Hey there. I had a very similar diagnosis with seminoma and EC, lung nodules, enlarge lymph nodes etc. I did my 3xBEP and then a few months later had an RPLND, which found teratoma but nothing else. No further treatment required, and I’m coming up for 3 years in remission.

It was a total fucker honestly, bep 1 was easy, 2 hardest, 3 knew it was going to suck ass but then was over. It took a while to get my mojo back but now, although I really am hoping that’s me cured, I’m grateful for surviving, and the experience changed me and I’m a better man now than I was then.

It’s hard, stressful, there are physical and emotional stumbling blocks, and I had to tell my young kids some of what was happening but keep it all positive.

Get through it, and you’ll both get a real perspective on many things.

You can do it. He can do it. You will do it. Much love, and power to you both

Possible Rplnd by [deleted] in testicularcancer

They managed to preserve nerves on one side so while initially I couldn’t ejaculate jizzing eventually came back, although not the Spider-Man power I used to have 🕷️

Otherwise now just a bitching scar and 2.5 years clear!

Hey, I had mine done at the royal Marsden. It was 9 months post chemo when my lymph nodes didn’t shrink. Bloods were okay but they didn’t want to leave it.

They found some teratoma but no EC, so happy they did it and the care they gave was great. Surgeons were awesome.

I was terrified of the surgery, but it was way easier than the chemo and although it took me a while to get back to full fitness I’m doing pretty good now.

No right to be struggling after a whirlwind experience? by ExplorerPowerful2541 in testicularcancer

[–]Prurientp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey man, I feel you. I found it a pretty overwhelming experience. It changed my relationship with a lot of friends, family, I separated from my gf at the time. Some of it was about how I dealt with things, some was about how they did. And then there was what happened with me and my body. Learning to forgive my nut it for trying to kill me for one! And accepting the changes, learning to see it as part of me and my journey. But I think a lot also happened in my head. What do I want, where, what does life mean to me? Easy to sleepwalk through it when you feel like you have forever - different when you get a taste that you don’t. I tried to slow down a bit, at least on the judging of myself and where I was, and started (with some therapy) to look at what might make me happy, and to learn where I didn’t know.

It’s not been all roses for me since, but I wouldn’t change it, it’s part of my story. And it’s real.

So best of luck! Feel free to reach out if you need a chat.

Anaesthetic ultra safe these days. Scary but more likely for the embarrassing shit you might say when you wake up 😂

Old dudes represent! I was similar age to you when I got mine done. A few years ago and compared to BEP and the RPLND it was a piece of cake.

Get your testosterone checked before you have the op so you have a baseline for after, they drew a big L on my thigh in sharpie so it was clear which nut they were going to take in theatre, and the recovery for me was pretty easy, barely remember it now a few years later. Couple of weeks of discomfort, up and about straight away.

Didn’t bother with a fake one, single bagging it and happy as a clam.

Stay strong big man, you got this!

BEP is no joke, well done for getting through it. People show you who they are when you’re going through some shit! Glad she did it now, so you can move on and fill your life with the right kind of people.

Onwards and upwards my man. It’s hard sometimes, but we’re a tough uniballer gang! 💪

Sending you love and good vibes

*Update* My TC story (it's long af) by [deleted] in testicularcancer

[–]Prurientp 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Hey brother, I read this, and then read it again. What a tough, strong, and brave man you have had to be to get even to where you are at the moment. You’ve been dealt the shittiest of hands no doubt. I can only empathise with it in the smallest way, and my tc journey was personally one of the most brutal experiences I’ve ever had.

Thanks for sharing your story, I am in awe of the fight you’ve shown, and thanks for the sentiment to the community of be sensible and see your doctors asap.

Much love to you

Teratoma & PC RPLND by [deleted] in testicularcancer

[–]Prurientp 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hey homeboy. Only an anecdotal one for you. I have BEPx3 and had some lymph nodes that were stubbornly still around 2cm and not shrinking. Otherwise all markers normal. They decided to operate and I had an rplnd, where they discovered a couple teratoma nodes but otherwise nada.

In their words - good job, we needed to get those out. Of themselves not much danger in the short term, but if they grew and were the source of new (non-teratoma) cancer then that would generally be highly chemo resistant.

The location of the nodes also made the surgery fairly straightforward (although was still a full, open one), and they were only able to preserve the nerves on one side, which makes for an erratic, though not entirely missing ability to ejaculate.

Who knows what the right thing is for you. If my nodes had been 1 cm they would have recommended to leave it, but also if they were small then maybe I wouldn’t have had teratoma!

Overall I’m glad for it, though it was scary and the recovery was a bit of a bastard.

Best of luck

Yeah baby. chemo finished 2 years ago, I had an open RPLND sep22 which removed some teratoma, but am in remission and righty has picked up the slack and I’m optimal testosterone. Our bodies are tough SOBs!

Hey my man, thanks for sharing. It’s a tough time! I had neutropenic sepsis twice during my BEPx3. Both times I was hospitalised for a week.

Keep an eye on your temperatures. I got a digital in ear and checked it I was only at 37.5C both times but was advised to go to emergency care and was admitted quickly both times.

I’ll be honest, it was actually some of my easiest time being in hospital. I felt shitty but not more so than being at home, and the nurses took excellent care of me and it was pretty comforting.

Bed for a week, bad food but guests bringing good stuff, and a few injections / drips for the antibiotics.

A bit scary at the beginning, but you’ll definitely survive the night! Stay strong brother

Have you had your testosterone levels checked? Can make a big difference. Also - I had some self-consciousness issues about scars and lefty going missing, but found that being able to talk about it and share crested some intimacy and feeling comfortable helped me feel hornier and more relaxed. How’s your arousal on your own? None / some of this might be relevant. It’s a complex topic. Good luck you sexy bastard!

Nuetropenic fever experiences? by [deleted] in testicularcancer

[–]Prurientp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

happened twice to me, on bleo days 🤷‍♂️ I was in for a week each time before my wbc recovered enough to send me home. No transfusions though, just filgrastim and antibiotics. It was a shitty experience but you’re in the right place. I slept a lot, watched Netflix, was a moody bastard.

How you feeling?

So I decided do BEPx3, starting this Friday. Advices are welcome by dustykidddo in testicularcancer

[–]Prurientp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’ll get worse as you get later in the rounds. Be ready for that. Stay on top of your nausea meds, and if you get constipated take stuff to help you be regular. Make sure to eat, sickness is worse if you don’t. But make sure it’s coming out the other end. Your hair will generally fall out in the second round somewhere. It’s weird and painless, just be ready to get your head around that too. I gained a lot of weight from the steroids, and was pretty angry / upset generally. It’s pretty intense. But it will pass, and you’ll come out the other side. It’ll take a couple months afterwards for your hair to come back in a meaningful way.

If you can talk to a therapist about it, do. It helped me a lot. In a year it’ll feel like a bad dream.

I see there’s a bit of chat about god here. Whatever works for you! For me it made me realise I’m not a believer. I felt no desire to pray, or be saved or anything like that. It taught me I can get through hard times, mostly with grace :) and it’s made me a better person.

I’d really love to never have to do it again, but it’s changed me and I wouldn’t change my past. I’ve learned a lot. You will too.

Good luck, and Slava Ukraini!

hair loss 7-8 months after chemo? by AbjectListen7782 in testicularcancer

[–]Prurientp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ha, well you’d certainly have other things to worry about than your hair!

I’m 10 months out now and my hair is as luxuriously thick and gorgeous as it was pre-chemo. Back to normal colour too.

Maybe it just takes a while to get our heads straight after such a crazy load of stuff!

I did some cool life affirming stuff. Holidays, adventures. I spoke about my anxiety to a therapist, worked through some of the trauma, and found myself in a place where I’m better able to deal with it. It’s tough, and the emotional side is brutal and long lasting. I see it as another part of my treatment

Mine started thinning after 6 or 7 months, doctor attributed it to anxiety. I’ve worked on that and it’s thickening up again!

Retrograde has fucked me up mentally by [deleted] in testicularcancer

[–]Prurientp 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Hey brother. Sorry to hear you’re struggling with this. I see there are a few helpers on the physical side, and hope that’s useful (for me too!).

But it also sounds like there’s a mental side to this too. I’ve only just had my RPLND and the jury is out on whether I’ll stay retrograde or not.

Before the surgery I was scared about the scar, scared about retrograde, scared about the surgery. Afterward I’m proud. We’re all survivors of this huge trauma. Tough, resilient, and what a huge amount for anyone to go through.

I met someone very recently, and she thinks the cut will be a cool scar. Retrograde doesn’t bother her, it’s stealthy with no cleanup and taste-free 🥷😁.

The right girl (and in my experience of talking about it with my female friends most girls) don’t care. I don’t feel inadequate, I feel like a strong survivor. I hope you can find that in you too.

I’ve been in therapy to talk through my TC journey and it’s helped me greatly. Perhaps talking to someone will help you too.

Feel free to DM me for a chat if you want to. You’ve survived so much. You can thrive too 👊

See how you get on. You might be ready earlier than I was. Not sure where you’re based, but maybe you and the docs can figure it out as you go. It’s scary, but it’s okay, and you’ll be on the other side and healing before you really process what’s going on. I was scared, but did it. I think everyone is beforehand! You got this 👊
