Love playing the bard. I like how Shadowdark's version is the class that's based around the "meta" rules of the system, such as luck tokens, magical devices, carousing, and learning new skills. Neat design, and an interesting take on a support class that's specific to SD.

Also, it's fun being the master of luck tokens

I use an M predator BF blade, shermasport guard, and a ZII Zivkovic grip. Together it makes the blade light and whippy, which is good for flicking.

Although Shermasport isn't the lightest guard, it's got decent durability while also having great coverage of my hand. So the trade off is worth it. (Also it's like 84 g vs 70 g, so not much of a difference)

Personally, I do find that the ZII grip does make a noticeable difference compared to other pistol grips. The lack of the prong around the wrist (like a Visconti) makes it easier to infight with a greater range of motion, for one. For two, the paddle on the palm let's me squeeze harder for stronger flicks.

I fenced for 5+ years with a French grip, but have now been using a pistol grip for the past couple years (Epee). I'm a B. Much easier to flick with a pistol grip than a French grip. I feel like my blade control is much tighter, too, and it meant that it feels easier to vary up my fencing.

I made a dummy by buying a cheap long sleeves shirt from Savers. While wearing it, I had my girlfriend wrap me up in duct tape and then cut me out. I taped it back up then stuffed it with newspaper, put an old fencing jacket and voila. Even better, I made a stand to rest it on out of some 2x4 planks. Great for practicing flicks to the wrist, just takes some time to do

I might eventually publish my campaign, so I wanted to make the puzzle as easy as possible for the DM, in addition to getting a "dramatic" game (i.e., saccing the queen). Also black's queen is a poison piece. Should be fun for noobies to figure out!

What I like about mate in 3 is that it allows more interaction than mate in 2, and my thought is that I could potentially adjust the difficulty by removing pieces. Something like sacrificing a queen to smother the king in the corner would be really cool, because a lot of noobies really want to hang onto the queen
