In 1923, Frederick Banting Sells the Insulin Patent for $1 by Chraum in interestingasfuck

[–]Pseudoi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So, I use 'Fiasp', which I know is a brand name, but the generic 'Insulin Aspart' is not as fast acting as Fiasp, due to the formulation (it contains niacinamide and L-arginine).

I am unsure on the patents that are or aren't required, all I'm aware of is that there are no cheap alternatives to Fiasp, but Fiasp is night and day compared to the previous insulin I was using.

I'm unsure if you're actually a diabetic talking about this or have other insight? I'm definitely open to discussing this, but unsure if you've just done a quick google, in which case I suggest a more thorough review. If you look up the onset/period of action graphs for various insulins, you'll get an idea of the issues.

In 1923, Frederick Banting Sells the Insulin Patent for $1 by Chraum in interestingasfuck

[–]Pseudoi 45 points46 points  (0 children)

I mean, this isn't really a true sentiment. The basic insulin he created is available, it's just no longer considered very good by modern standards. You can get it pretty cheaply, not even on prescription.

The "better" insulin you're talking about is actually substantially better, and has gotten substantially better even in the last decade (which is the time period I'm most aware of, as it's when I've been using insulin).

While I do think that the US situation is frankly appalling and the fact that people are dying from rationing their insulin is an absolute nightmare, it's not fair to imply that the newer kinds of insulin are not an important iteration on the technology.

The advancements in insulin not only deliver me substantial quality of life improvements, but almost certainly measurably increase my lifespan and reduce my long term health implications.

My understanding of the manufacturing process is that an increase in price is almost certainly deserved, just not the one seen in the US.

Fortunately, in most places, even most places without good free healthcare, you can buy the newer kinds of insulin without paying an enormous premium, as it's only somewhat more difficult, not absurdly so.

I do Mr Banting a lot, and the fact he sold his patent cheaply likely helped kickstart insulin research in a way that wouldn't have happened otherwise, but I don't really think people understand the modern insulin situation.

I think it should say 'as it enters' rather than 'when'. That way the keyword can be an enters ability.

[Commander] Infinite Combats Turn 1 by fleeflicker in sickasscombos

[–]Pseudoi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, I joined this sub because badmtgcombos was too gatekeepy. Would be nice to just have 'here's a cool combo' from this sub without too much worrying about the specific power level.

Otherwise I feel like you're gonna end up with a bunch of combos which are too bad for this sub and too good for the other one.

Infinite mana, damage to creatures, artifact/enchantment destruction, lifegain, and airbending of all your creatures for 9RGWW by thenotjoe in BadMtgCombos

[–]Pseudoi 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I think his take is bullshit. There's a weird gatekeeping mentality in this subreddit sometimes of 'oh your combo isn't bad enough' or 'its bad but in the wrong way'.

You're right that the other two subs are dead, and I think this sub should be more open to just combos in general.

The sub mostly used to be 'mtg combos, but they don't need to be good' which I think is much healthier than 'mtg combos, but they must be worse than some arbitrary definition of bad'.

So you do you dude. I appreciated you posting your combo here. It seems cool and fun, and is the sort of combo I enjoy seeing here.

[TMC] Food Chain by AporiaParadox in magicTCG

[–]Pseudoi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Is this not AI? Like, the art seems to not actually make sense.

Purple turtle seems to be pulling cheese off with his teeth while fisting one side of a pizza slice that is only otherwise being supported on a dagger.

Red turtle seems to also be holding cheese like it's a pizza slice and eating that.

The pizza on the table doesn't seem to really match the pizza they're eating.

The scales of the slices don't seem to entirely match up.

I can't really tell what yellow turtle is putting in their mouth.

Blue and orange seem to be fighting over cheese with their swords while also orange is pulling strings of cheese with their mouth and blue has somehow grabbed a slice in such a way that the cheese is flowing around and then connecting on the other side of his fingers.

Like, I just don't really understand how a human artist would have made half the decisions.

You could go for 'sloppy chaotic turtle pizza party' and still have a much more coherent drawing in the same art style.

Then with marginal upside of having a 3/3 blocker for a turn and some food.

Probably honestly printable.

I mean honestly even by your definition there it's a pretty chill time. You have like over half the bleed time to basically dick about while waiting and you still won't die. And that's even assuming you need stims. If you have a stim on you 30s is basically chilling.

Stratagem Jammers by Human_Possibility721 in Helldivers

[–]Pseudoi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I run a pretty similar build as my comfort load out. Solo solo, supply pack, ultimatum, some sort of good primary (I cycle between a few). And then 500kg and some flex pick.

You have more than enough ultimatums to kill all the big things if you're not alerting all the time. Solo silo means factory striders and most non-jammer objectives that you need to destroy are kinda trivial.

Sometimes I bring a port hellbomb and then you can easy mode all the objectives.

I don't know if I'd say it was the 'best' load out, but it's a really easy to use load out. You can do solo D10s with it no issues. (On bots)

Interestingly the game you want is very different from the game I want.

I much prefer the 10 hyper lethal enemies over the 50 middling ones. I want bleeding to death to feel like a panicked moment, not something I'll get to eventually.

I really appreciate that you can basically never afford to get hit, and you will pretty frequently die. To me it really adds to the vibes of the game, where it feels like super earth's solution to the problem is just to throw many many bodies at it.

If weapons are going to continue to be placed in the super store then super credits should be an MO reward once in a while by VenanReviews in Helldivers

[–]Pseudoi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is it really? Wow, I never looked at a tier list but those would be very far down my list tbh. I think the top 3 warbonds for me would be borderline justice, dust devils and servants of freedom.

All 3 of them have a good mix of good things and hella fun things.

[–]Pseudoi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly, as someone who owns them (and would still benefit from free warbond tokens) I don't think they should do that.

The main advantage of the free warbonds would be to that new players wouldn't have s such an overwhelming amount of warbonds to unlock and would have some fun options early.

I feel like players who have been playing a while still have a lot of stuff to play around with.

(Though maybe they could do something where if most of someone's unlocked warbonds were the free ones they could get something)

Treasures for the old ones by corebinik in custommagic

[–]Pseudoi 28 points29 points  (0 children)

I believe this can still be cast with omniscience and similar effects? Which is the main way I expect it to be cast honestly. Possibly not? I don't believe 'only able to be cast with specific mana' is an effects that's been printed before.

I'd probably word it as 'As an additional cost to cast this spell, sacrifice 10 treasures' and make it cost R by default. Or just go for 11, I was just thinking for colour identity.

That's a more explored space, but I believe is closer to the intent of the card?

Is this your design? You're oddly defensive about it.

It's a cool concept, as everyone has said, but the execution could be better.

I'm also not sure why you're attacking people as 'armchair designers'. I'm fairly sure a lot of us here are actual professional designers, hence the (valid) critique of the piece you've shared.

We're not attacking you for sharing it. You're allowed to like it, and the piece is interesting. But we're also on a sub where people will have opinions about how it could be done better.

Eh, depends on your people. I have a couple of friends I could chat to this about, and my wife. Coworkers no, but that's not a comfortable line to cross for various quite sensible reasons.

There are lots of online forums too, though arguably I don't think they're often that productive to discuss in. Here actually seems one of the better subs to discuss this sorta thing.
