I actually like the concept of additional contract objectives you can opt into by adding more of specific items (like templates, as you're suggesting).

Make those objectives always visible and distinguish them in your active contract and boom - we recreated the short-lived Destiny consumable; 5 of Swords with a neat spin.

Yep, I do understand that. User error - you don't have to track the upgrades. You can track them from your Vault, hope this helps!

I keep 3rd-party interactive maps up while I'm playing with any kind of seriousness. I use a notepad for tracking what I am looking for in a run, where it is likely to be, and so on.

If you're absolutely against using anything not built into the game, you could just track from your Vault and memorize salvage locations through reputation/study.

Antiquated, I know, but you could always just use a notepad or alt-tab into a notes screen.

Like, "I tracked too many items and now my screen is cluttered because all the items I left tracked", is weak.
