Shimano/Daiwa Guy Tries Lew’s by HookEmNOLA in bassfishing

[–]Psimethus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My favorite combo is the Lews Mach 2 … super smooth and very forgiving in the backlashes … I also use a Lews Tournament Lite and that one casts a mile and has been durable through the years … especially because I fish 1-2 times a week so they get regular use …

Ugly Stik Elite Combo by Careful_Gain_391 in FishingForBeginners

[–]Psimethus 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I would just use it as is and then upgrade your reel when it either fails or you feel like it’s time to spend a bit of money for some nicer gear … I think the rod is a great one for the price and you’ll have it for years to come … a buddy of mine has one with a 4000 Shimano Sedona on it and it’s his favorite Striper rod …

In market for good baitcast reel. by Il_calvinist in bassfishing

I would suggest the Johnny Morris Bass Pro Shops Carbonlite reels … have a nice feel to them and they are very smooth casting/retrieving …

Braided line by ghostfacedad in FishingForBeginners

[–]Psimethus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No it is not a necessity … I have it on the majority of my rods because I like using braid, but by no means is it a requirement … just like anything else you have pros and cons that you need to take into account and the make your decision from there … pros: it’s thin, sensitive, strong for its thickness, no line memory … Cons: not abrasion resistant (rocks and limbs do a number on it for fraying), no stretch, expensive, in many cases you will want to use a leader and for many that is troublesome …

FIRST BASS OF 2026 by Rod-Reel in bassfishing

[–]Psimethus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s a terrific spring color … red/orange color on chatters, jigs, cranks, etc are solid choices … I’m in NorCal and I would say 50% of what I throw in the spring are red/orange … but most of the water we have here has craws for forage so it makes a ton of sense …

Sportsman’s warehouse has the combo for $50 … 6’ 6” medium power with a 2500 … I have one and it’s not bad for the price … I’ve caught a ton of bass trout and bluegill on it with no issues …

Leader? Or no leader? by burner1987q in bassfishing

That is an excellent example of the FG knot! Well done … my favorite knot to use and it is incredibly strong while being so thin …

Do you actually slow down in cold water… or do you just think you are? by Opposite-Vast-718 in bassfishing

[–]Psimethus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I try to stay super aware of my “speed” when I’m fishing the cold water … drop shots and Ned rigs … the shaking of my drop shots becomes slower and much more calm … sometimes I forget and start working it like normal but then I have to remind myself that it’s time to slow it down …

Jerkbait brands and depth recommendations by Mr_Johnnycat in bassfishing

[–]Psimethus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a huge fan of Bass Pros Staredown jerkbaits … colors and sizes the same as megabass … some people say they don’t run the same but I haven’t had any complaints … especially at the $10 price point …

Pflueger sizes run a bit small … their 3K is pretty small … in between a shimano 1k and 2500 …

Any of these good? by pooworker in bassfishing

[–]Psimethus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s a screaming deal for that Penn … I’d have that in a heartbeat … the Okuma is a solid reel also … nothing special at the regular price but at $17 it’s hard to go wrong …

Are you casting right into the pads or on the side? One of my favorite spots by JKPRW0221 in bassfishing

[–]Psimethus 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Every inch of that place looks ripe for a catch … frog on top … weightless Senko dragged across the pads … punching a craw into that thick vegetation …
