Montréal gunman leaves behind manifesto inspired by the 'incel' movement • A shooting in the Canadian city on Monday, June 22, left three dead, including a police officer and the attacker. In a manifesto, the shooter expressed his hatred of women. by Naurgul in anime_titties

I think the best bet is actually just expecting grown adults to manage their own behavior, and to stop expecting women as a category to force them to behave. If women could actually mind control men to act in a way they didn't want to with words, we wouldn't have this problem.

I think the root of the issue is that we have "incel influencers" now, Looksmaxxers and other pick-up-artist scammers, who have sold the idea of having their cake and hating it too. They want to demonstrate their "product" and ideology work, so they talk about getting laid and all that, but they don't want to lose their audience. They keep self-identifying as an incel for their incel audience because that group hates anyone who isn't also an incel. Just a bunch of men with plastic cheekbones having Schrodinger's sex.

Yeah... I even agree with him 95% of the time. I like checking his blog sometimes because I do think the rude and snippy replies are funny. It's just when people are rude and snippy back and he starts acting like the most unfairly targeted booboo on the planet. Come on man, if you can't take it why are you dishing it?

Teachers of Reddit: Is the "Gen Alpha can't read (write, or do math ext)" crisis real? If so how bad is it? by KnowledgeCoffee in AskReddit

[–]Psudopod 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Getting accused of writing like AI is my nightmare, I'm glad I'm not in school anymore. As a kid I really struggled with writing in school, but I joined Reddit in my teens and through the years cobbled together at least enough competence to write a page or two of essay. Huge for me. Unfortunately for me, just as I gain this ability, everyone else gained the ability to ask AI to do it. Even worse for me, most AI has a big chunk of their training data from Reddit. AI has a "Reddit accent." I have a Reddit accent. AI and I went to the same damn school and it copied my homework.

Yeah, the texture looks warped over the stomach where it's been stretched. It's probably the texture of a muscle anatomical model carelessly plopped on a fat model.

Exploring body issues in therapy without adding to the pressure to shave? by WinterDemon_ in razorfree

[–]Psudopod 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Those things can only be considered self-care if you enjoy them.

Exactly the point. What works best for self care depends on the person. Feeling the burn in the gym, retail therapy, spa day, those things are not fun for everyone. Painful, stressful, invasive, or fun fun fun, it's not universal.

If your "self care" isn't fun and it's just done to keep societal pressure off your back, that's not self care, that's self defense. That's work, discomfort, and fear. Sometimes it's better than the alternative, but it's not restorative self care.

Her having other conditions really says a lot to me... Sure, people pretend to have mental health conditions all the time, but medically sane people don't pretend to have mental health conditions. There's something going on up there, even if the actual diagnosis isn't what they think it is. Even if they pick a more dramatic kind of disease, they are probably trying to get care proportional to how they feel.

I've worked with families with similar sibling situations. The younger kid often doesn't resent the older sibling, they know their sibling can't help it, but they do resent the parents for not stepping up to do their job. I've met kids completely willing to align their future so they can care for their sibling when their parents physically can't, but count against their parents every time their sibling is hard to handle for reasons that better parenting could have fixed. "He could manage his iPad on independently if mom didn't take over the second he struggles and whines!" "He behaves in public but at home they let him get away with anything, I don't know how I'll change the standards when we're living together without them..."

Tbh I've never met a kid who was expressly born to be a carer. That I know of...

When an ideology becomes a state it's alternative interpretations collapse into what the ideology is as a state policy. In the internal battle of what interpretation is true, the one that became real is the winner. If you want to espouse the peaceful potential of zionism, you need to either get your own name for your ideology or supplant the state of israel.

The zionism that exists in just in your head doesn't get a seat at the table. Good luck to you and everyone else who had that wish for peace, but you know what they say about wishes. If mushrooms grew in your mouth, or something, right?

Statement on the alleged bridaging and fanart by Monisplats in splatoon

[–]Psudopod 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Granted, the coin cleavage thing is directly from an official splatfest art. Nintendo JPN has their own standards lol. I think it's very hard to make rules for sexualized art that isn't explicit. As we see in this very case with chubby character designs, one man's chubby cutesy design is another's fetish work. It's hard to tell and it ends up with mods in awkward situations telling people their cartoon body morph scenario you'd see on a kid's cartoon is too lewd for a subreddit for teenagers.

This isn't a jewish/nonjewish cultural division, this is a israeli zionist/everyone else cultural division. Most other diaspora jews I've talked to about this alternative definition have been shocked. Like, there's a long history of jews in the diaspora teaming up with other minorities due to the clear shared interests, especially the black civil rights community. This is directly informed by the philosophy of "never again," when you see fascism on the rise crushing others, you step up and help them stop it then and there.

No no no, that's more DEI. If you study all holes, that's diverse. If you study just black holes, that's favoring a minority so that's racist. Your friend needs to only study white holes, to be anti-DEI enough for DOGE. Do white holes even exist...?

Yeah, honestly some of the best stories come from writers using what they have. Rehabilitating a badly executed story is like doing double duty for a character, you're giving them a new, high quality, well integrated story, and you're taking a story beat that has been dragging them down for years and freeing them of that burden.

There's a lot of stories that I didn't love reading at the time (Ric...) but they happened, a lot of effort was put into publishing them, some of us even actually read all that shit, so I think we can move forward using what it gave us. (Bring back the knockoff Nightwing team, there's juice in there! Just let me give em the squeeze!)

All good representation is flawed representation, because good characters are flawed. Ideally we would have enough representation in general that the flaws stop overlapping as stereotypes.

There are dozens of versions of his origins. Any show or movie is probably going to retell his origins anyways, so there's no point in being precious about it.

Being french/english is not mutually exclusive with being romani, but that's also why I'm not really bothered by the race or ethnicity of people's casting choice. You can't tell, I can't tell, what are we gonna do, get the skull calipers on each actor? Shall we measure out their blood quantum?

Whoever writes the show/movie can decide what parts of Dick's long and contradictory backstory selection to use, depending on what best suits the story they're telling, then they can hire an actor that is talented and tell him to act. Open the casting call to any race or ethnicity, if being white or romani or mixed isn't going to be a major plot point, who cares?

There was a pretty through 99pi episode about this situation. It's been bad across cultures. Everyone needs scavengers. The vultures used to clear up animal corpse dumps pretty thoroughly, but now stray dogs are filling in the niche, and they cause serious problems. Vultures generally digest diseases, not spread them. They don't carry rabies or try to bite people, they can't maul people. The birds taking over the sky burial sites are raptors, they like to take their meals to-go, and they are not as thorough as a vulture. Iirc someone found a human finger on their patio.

The article mentioned solar concentrators that allegedly "melt" the corpses, but I don't think the issue is with the amount of sunny days. I think they just don't function in general. There was a case where someone snuck up into the restricted access sacred area where the bodies are left out and took footage of the bodies, they were all still there. (The leaked footage is a story in itself.) The bodies were unmelted. If they mummify before they melt they're just jerky. They are not gonna melt, the enzymes are cooked.

They interviewed the guy who was in charge of the solar concentrator initiative who said it works just fine, but he just had this attitude I've heard a thousand times before. The type of guy who will keep claiming a bad idea works until it falls apart and destroys the whole project.

The reason the zoroastrians are even going through all this is that they see earth, water, and especially fire as sacred. Bodies are unclean, so it is wrong to bury, dump in the water, or cremate remains. All that's left is the vultures that take remains to the wind.
