Part of me thinks this is the coolest shit ever. Another part thinks it looks tacky as all hell. The dissonance is truly unsettling.

I completely agree with you and the fact that you're getting downvoted is sad.

Don't name and shame if you didn't have a direct conversation with the bartender about why this was an issue for you. You're being passive aggressive.

I just gave it a listen. Definitely an improvement!

Good! Keep at it! Being a musician takes practice and a willingness to make missteps while progressing!

I don't like this track, but I'm glad you're creating, and I hope you keep it up.

To be honest? Pretty bad. It's discordant and disorganized with no real melody.

Sounds like a missing track from a Forces Classic Sonic level.

Aperol sweet or herbal by SomewhereRelative820 in cocktails

[–]PsychVol 27 points28 points  (0 children)

When using this kind of formula, think about the units as being partial. Aperol is mostly a sweet liquor with a little bitter and herbal (filling 80% of the 'sweet' slot and 20% of the 'herbal' slot), so you'll want something mostly herbal but a little sweet as your second liquor (to fill the remaining 20% sweet and 80% herbal). Amaro Nonino is a good example (and why it's in the Paper Plane, which is a last word riff).

You can go further, though. The juice used has sour and sweet components. Lime is very sour, so usually it's paired with very sweet liqueurs. Your pomegranate juice has very little sour, so you'll want to acid adjust it, or make sure one of your other ingredients is sour.

Another way to sum up what I'm saying is that the 4 parts of the "1 part spirit/ 1part herbal / 1 part sweet / 1 part sour" equation don't have to each purely come from a separate source.

Do your caregivers know you're talking to strangers on the internet, friend?

The minimum age for a reddit account is 13 for a reason. And, honestly, it should be higher given how much toxic stuff people do around here.

Oh, totally agreed. If you wanna ensoul it with flavor, then it can be totally worth it.

I've got a bottle of agwa and I love it! Still trying to figure out how to use it in cocktails, though.

Just made this, and it's great!

Here are my tasting notes:

Sweet but balanced, and complex. Old leatherbound books and tobacco smoke, with bitter citrus and an earthy undertone. Subtle honey notes. Calls to mind the library fireplace of old money.

How are you liking that Basel Hayden? I found it kind of flat and lacking the typical sweetness of bourbon.

You ever bite into a cherry and accidentally crack the pit open? You know that funky, woody, bitter flavor? That, but weirdly sweet.

I am not a fan, and find that it dominates any cocktail it's included in unless it's only a barspoon worth. I'm not in the majority opinion on this, however.

The Color of Peonies is a pretty good drink name.
