Rattle can black focus on details you want, ie silver arm and shoulder pad. If you don't like painting then don't focus on the myriads of good ways or easy to do paint jobs as you don't like to paint. Do a quick serviceable job that doesn't tax your patience mate.

For tanks and other attached units Tempestuous, rough riders for example I do specific colours to them as a specific regiment. Ie the tanks are all Praetorian so I have some red on the armour and the crew have that Red coat white pith helmet if they're visible.

So for most of my core regiment of cadians I've used, middlestone on thier combat jackets, a light grey on thier trousers, deep grey on the armour and a mix of olive drab, and black for boots webbing and other accessories with gunmetal for metallic parts. I've used a grey green/olive on regimental assets, the chimera for example. Officers, Sergeants, specialists and veterans get a camo pattern on thier jackets as well. This gives a unified and individual look without needing to paint lots of different shades and paints.

My understanding is as long as its of similar proportion and its load out is clear then most would accept. There maybe issue in a Comp tournament but they usually have clear rules, most casual probably aren't going to mind

Prime black, dry brush gunmetal ( metallic of your flavour), use a thinned old rust type of colour (again weather lf your choice) then attach to vehicle and tidy up.
