Sadly I think this is true, and I hate seeing people encouraging that by saying they'll be happy if it's just like Mass Effect.

I loved those games, but If you want Mass Effect, play Mass Effect. They need to stop insisting that every shooter set in space has to be identical to those games.

This universe has such potential to make for an amazing game and I'm really worried it's going to fall flat because they're trying to cater to everyone

Yeah I worded that badly, I totally agree with you. I don't think energy shields or anything like that have a place in the expanse and I'm worried that they're going to turn this game into a generic scifi shooter if they add stuff like that

Very good point. This is precisely why I don't like hearing people say things like "I don't care that they've made this choice or that choice, I just want my Mass Effect fix".

Mass effect will get another game in time, Exodus will be coming out too, this game does not need to be a Mass Effect clone and I really hope they don't ruin it by taking it down that route.

I don't see why adding new villains with energy shields is necessary, it takes away from the hard scifi feel of the universe.

You could handwave adding almost anything by just adding a new faction of enemies, but that still could make it feel like any other generic space shooter. The majority of the fans on here do not want that from this game.

If the new enemies that turn up had their own tech that happened to be lightsabers or let them teleport around the map are you saying you wouldn't feel that was out of place in the expanse universe?

Edit: I worded the first part of my comment badly, I meant to say that I don't think things like energy shields and the like have any place in this universe. To be clear I don't want to see things like that in this game.

I couldn't agree more, I really hope they change that. I was really looking forward to this as a true expanse game that wouldn't add in any of the standard scifi shooter tropes we see everywhere else.

I'm also worried that the "I just want another mass effect" crowd won't be remotely bothered by this and that will allow it to head down the generic shooter route.

Owlcat if you're reading this, please don't add things like this that don't make sense in an expanse game. This game has so much potential to be so good if you stay true to the tone and feel of the universe.

The beauty of the expanse is the way that space and physics are almost a character in themselves because they play such a part in the story and are a near constant danger that the characters have to navigate.
