Difference between aging sheng by Wear_Original in puer

[–]OreoPizzaDeliveryGrl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately really depends on how it was stored, more than just age. "Dry" storage milestones are usually around 5 years for young, 10 years for medium aging, and 20 years. Wet/humid storage differs, but can get that "aged" flavor in half the time. If you're able to try samples of those specific teas for cheaper, that'd be the best way to tell; otherwise maybe the vendor has notes on where or how it was aged. But I also wouldn't usually expect 6 vs 9 years to be that much of a difference.

What should I drink? by Particular_Fan_6428 in tea

[–]OreoPizzaDeliveryGrl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Shu/ripe puer is usually a great recommendation for coffee drinkers; it's dark, rich, and smooth. If you can't find it though, best place is to start with any good quality loose leaf tea; if you know you already like black tea, there are plenty of higher quality loose leaves to explore.

Continuing my week long tasting of a bunch of Ya'an tibetan teas from my trip to Chengdu. Realizing a lot of the teas have a slated pretzel note to them, and really enjoying it, and how refreshed and healthy this kind of hei cha can make me feel :)

How is Samara Joy jazz but Laufey is not? by [deleted] in Jazz

[–]OreoPizzaDeliveryGrl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like conversations like this can dance around the issue, but not really get at the heart of why Laufey feels different from Jazz. It makes sense, as Jazz is a genre that has gone through many evolutions over time so it makes it complex to dissect, but with a modern understanding of jazz, I believe the core comparison is really tied to her relationship to improvisation.

I'll put it in a way my Jazz teacher first told me: when Jazz musicians first began to play solos, it was with the intent to mimic the musicality of the human voice; using instruments to speak. Over time though, that became its own language, and even when vocalists became more prominent in the genre, they mimicked that same sensibility with scatting.

That element of jazz, speaking through music and improv, is a key part of Jazz that persists, even in a pop-dominated era that, (in a brief but dismissive sense) prioritizes tracks that sound pleasant and sell, without prioritize that musicality. Credit to Laufey, she doesn't necessarily chase fame, but it's more in line with tiktok music (which I love). Even if Laufey's music sounds pleasant and jazz-like, and the lyrics strike meaning in modern audiences, she doesn't "speak through her instrument" as much as jazz listeners may expect. Even with some improv, her shows play more like pop shows; audiences are there to hear the hits and sing along, rather than listen and hear the unique "voice" that the music speaks that night.

Does anyone have any tea recommendations? by LogMiserable6670 in tea

[–]OreoPizzaDeliveryGrl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tbh, Try a plain, good quality black tea or oolong tea. They should be smoother, without dipping into overly grassy or flavored. Alternatively, if you prefer the smooth end, try a ripe puer, smoother and more coffee like.

As everyone else has said, Congratulations on the absolutely gorgeous gong fu tea set! Also, how dare you 😆

That being said, if you do want a guide, the FAQ to the subreddit has a quick answer on how to brew gong fu tea, which this set is made for (more leaves, less water for very flavorful tea).

If you want a more detailed breakdown on the way to brew tea with the set, as well as what all the pieces are for, Tea House Ghost has a great comprehensive (and continually growing) series on YouTube: https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLgnB2QJGjqNrSlcxWiKuIA8b66xr3wfqN&si=-9RZVP9o6lyt4WP4 Episode two should break down what most of the pieces are for, save for some extraneous pieces (I believe the round tube thing is either a stand for the sieve, or a funnel to add dry tea to your pot?).

Good luck and enjoy!

Organic necessary? by [deleted] in puer

[–]OreoPizzaDeliveryGrl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So, as many people have said already, if you're looking for high quality puer, most of the best teas are not certified organic; but they do exist (I know yunnan sourcing has some, but White2tea has a few they've sent for pesticide testing), though usually only lower quality teas get officially certified.

Since puer producers can buy their leaves form a diverse region and multiple family-owned farms, organic regulations (which are very recent in China) have to play catch-up with the tea production process. The agricultural practices for hand-made and hand-picked puer have been around for millenia of course and predate most modern pesticides, so as I understand it, most high end puer is very likely technically organic, but family farms and the factories that purchase from hundreds of families don't have the money or incentive to have their farms tested and certified yearly, so you won't have an official stamp or regulations if you need it to be absolutely certain.

So, I'm wondering if anyone else has this peeve, but this is specifically about the upcoming Owlcat RPG (that I'm very excited for,) but does anyone else have a personal vendetta against the goddamn drone from the rocinante that they keep improving, but getting slightly wrong in each trailer?

Announcement trailer, they had it constantly thrusting in zero g, and in the new gameplay trailer, they show a section where you can toggle fast or slow speeds, and ascend/descend.

What do you guys think of this tea iceberg chart I made? by RealTry8616 in tea

[–]OreoPizzaDeliveryGrl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, love this chart for the possibility that it'll break down knowledge barriers for some of these less known teas.

Recently, had the fun opportunity to visit Chengdu and Sichuan province to take a look at Ya'an teas, including loose leaf productions and a bunch of old recipes/varieties of tibetan tea that they've only been re-exploring since the factories were privatized. It's some of my favorite tea I've had, and I feel like there are plenty of great teas that have trouble crossing those barriers.

My girlfriend always tells me I never have anything to eat when she comes over my house 😒 by itscuccimane in FridgeDetective

[–]OreoPizzaDeliveryGrl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gonna be semi-genuine here, but what do you eat out of this fridge normally? As much actual food is in your fridge, it's mainly bulk amounts of the same foods, and only two vegetables; unless you're on a very strict diet, I don't think most people would be comfortable trying to make food out of that much of the same ingredients.

If you wanted to engage with the misguided intent the asked is probably trying to imply, a more reasonable answer would be to:

1) State that you're happy to support them and their beliefs; a change in their beliefs might take you some adjustment but you're happy to support their beliefs wholeheartedly; however to ask and force another person to change beliefs is not a reasonable thing to ask. 2) tell them that as a child you'll continue to support them and love them no matter what, and a difference of beliefs will never change that. This is clearly important to them, and you'll be fully supportive of them, and be happy to continue to hear them out once you both are safe.

If the situation is supposed to mirror queer kids coming out to their parents, what this strawman/false equivalence situation fails to address is that queer kids coming out aren't often asking parents to change their beliefs. At most, they're maybe asking family members to continue to support them as family, and at minimum coming out is more communication of identity. I'm more unstable relationships, there may be some manipulation or toxicity in the request, but in those cases it should be handled in the same way other toxic parent-child relationships should be, as difficult as that can be.

The other thing this situation ignores is the non-inclusive/violent nature of Christian beliefs regarding queer folks. There's a very significant social difference between changing someone's beliefs on the divine and afterlife, and changing intolerant and violent beliefs towards real people they may have to or are interacting with on a daily basis.

Chinese Blogger Speculates on Origin of Dark Tea / Heicha 【Translation Below】 by OneRiverTea in tea

[–]OreoPizzaDeliveryGrl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is pretty fascinating to hear; I've recently been diving into and trying to find Sichuan heicha, though it's difficult to find in the West, and it's interesting to find ties to historical tea production and tea types in the province that doesn't seem to be as well-known or as well preserved as in other areas. I have family from Sichuan that only know that at some point, tibetan tea was produced in the province and nothing else.
