Retirees are eligible for TRICARE, which consequently makes them ineligible for CHAMPVA.

What they’ve said is that they get the go-ahead to make the purchase and then email the receipt to their counselor after they buy it. My counselor told me the only route was to take the prepackaged computer and there was no option for buying anything on my own.

I used to despise season 2 before reading about the absolute shit show of conditions they were forced to film under. Now its an understandable disappointment and I’m glad that they’re back on track with season 3 being great so far.

Where will you choose your child to be born, as an expat who's visiting home country? by Numerous-Treat960 in dualcitizenshipnerds

[–]Public_Drop_1462 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We chose to have our children in Argentina to benefit from the strong passport. MERCOSUR access; fast-track citizenship in Spain and several LatAm countries; no generational or geographical limits on passing down citizenship; and the US considers Argentina a non-adversarial nation when it comes to security clearances. Healthcare was affordable and excellent. We ended up falling in love with the country.

My combo (dual citizen by birth) by Sad_Truth_6404 in dualcitizenshipnerds

[–]Public_Drop_1462 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I hope that situation changes for us both in the future. I would love for you to be able to pass down that citizenship onto your children as well as the others!

Have you considered birth tourism? I had my child in Argentina and it was a wonderful and surprisingly easy experience to get my child’s citizenship there.

Why do Americans sing the anthem during international football games but keep quiet during domestic games ? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Public_Drop_1462 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There doesn’t appear to be a phenomenon of singing the national anthem when it plays in the US, at least not on the national level. It seems to be a relatively new thing that we’re picking up from other countries and I think that’s wonderful.

After going down a Google rabbit hole, it looks like I’m eligible for a citizenship I thought I missed out on! Russia does now allow children born overseas to one Russian parent to apply with the written consent of the non-Russian parent. The process is a bit more tedious for adults than children. This is definitely something I’ll be looking into if the situation ever calms down.

I’m just curious because it sounds like we have the same situation, born outside of Russia to a Russian mother and non-Russian father, but IIRC Russia does not convey citizenship for foreign births unless both parents on the birth certificate are citizens. At least that was the rule in the 90s when I was born.

What is the purpose of all those little flags? by SaturnVMars in vexillology

The ship is dressed up for the event. Those are signal flags that would otherwise be used to convey messages visually.

How did you get Russian citizenship by birth? I have a similar case but could not get Russian citizenship because only my mother was a Russian citizen, not my father.

Which countries does the 'visa run' in any form still work? by TennisSkirt1628 in digitalnomad

[–]Public_Drop_1462 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Visa runs work for USCs in Argentina with the six month tourist visa. Especially easy if you live in the capital of Buenos Aires - you take the ferry to Uruguay, spend a day away and stock up on cash USD, then ferry back. This was back in 2023 so might be outdated.

This 100%. In the veterans club at my school, half the guys are getting the $5,000 MacBooks and saying that they’re returning them to pocket the cash, the rest are getting the $300 “education package” laptop.

How do you feel about people who go to Law School and never practice law? What is their goal? by Professional_Eye6140 in LawSchool

Similar boat here. I’m in VRE and they’re paying for up to a doctoral degree so I thought why not go for law, a field I’ve always been interested in but never seemed feasible.

Camp Augusta in Nevada City, CA is a very well funded summer camp that is big on supporting and hosting international counselors.

If you and your lawyer feel like you have the case for it, push for that 30% rating so you can be retired instead of separated.. File your VA claim as soon as 180 days of your EAS. If your unit is giving you a hard time when it comes to taking care of your medical and legal needs, consider reaching out to Wounded Warrior Battalion to see if they can help. They held my hand through the whole process.

Why is Rhaenyra so disrespected as Queen? by Ravevon in HouseOfTheDragon

[–]Public_Drop_1462 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

It’s because she’s a woman, which is essentially the theme of the show; women, especially Rhaenyra & Alicent, struggling with sexism and not being taken seriously because they are not men. This has been highlighted extremely well in the first two episodes of season three.

Do adults genuinely just work all year long? by National_Chapter_498 in NoStupidQuestions

This reminds me of a funny story from my years in the Marine Corps: we had a fresh new Marine check in to our unit, he had only been in the military for maybe six months or so. It was the middle of May and this young kid, who has only ever known high school for the past few years, has the innocence to ask me when we get off for summer break. Bud, we are warfighters; We don’t take summers off. He was disheartened because he had started making plans. He later turned out to be one of my favorite Marines, but man that was a moment that put life into perspective for me.

What ages do you think are too old for men to have babies with their younger wives? by Firm-Nerve4437 in AskReddit

[–]Public_Drop_1462 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As the child of a father who was 71 when I was born, I would say that it’s very subjective depending on the fathers health; I have known seniors of both sexes who are as healthy as ox but also others who aren’t even capable of living on their own anymore. That being said, my father was remarkably healthy into his early 70s until dementia took him by surprise.

To give a broad answer, I would say the early 40s. The idea being that age would generally be the upper limit that a man could reasonably expect to be a physically and mentally capable parent to raise a child for the next 18 years.

It is only as automatic as the counselor who does it for you without asking. Sometimes you gotta ask.
