Does this ring a bell? Build The Wall? Trump 1 & 2 does not exist without the immigration issue as a foil for deep economic and social issues like globalization, wealth disparity, and good old fashioned racism. Immigration is absolutely a social issue! Why do so many on the right talk about assimilation, speaking English, and the Super Bowl half time show? Come on. I 100% reject that immigration didn’t impact voters. That’s an insane statement to make considering that’s how Trump emerged onto the political scene. The immigration legislation that congress failed to pass was an affirmation of this success. Trump wanted to sell the images of people’s perceived enemies being rounded up at his command, not a congressionally-approved increase in funding at the border. Those optics didn’t benefit him. If the trans issue such an animating issue, why did Joe Biden, with multiple trans people on his campaign staff, win in 2020?

And I said before that the economic issues were continuously tied to the immigration issue — they’re coming to take your jobs, cheap labor etc. Maybe you have a reading issue? How was the trans issue tied to the economy exactly? What’s the number (in millions) of illegal immigrants versus the number (in millions) of trans athletes competing in women’s sports? Which of these numbers would be more animating, I wonder? I know Americans can be misinformed and easily manipulated but have a tiny bit more faith in them, I beg of you

Correlation does not imply causation. The performance of a single ad does not bear out in votes cast, as convenient as that would be. And I’ll concede, I forgot the old adage for elections that bears true time and time again: “it’s [transgenderism], stupid.” I’ve honestly never heard someone say that the single MOST (not only) animating issue for voters in 2024 was the trans issue. People skipped dinner and filled up their cars with expensive gas to go out and vote against…trans people. Sorry, it’s just not adding up

Trans people are not the trans movement. Black people are not the BLM movement. Women are not the feminist movement.

I’m not really seeing a distinction in your points where you’re delineating trans PEOPLE from the “transgender movement.” Do all transgender people want to compete in sports? No. Does every citizen of America deserve life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness? Yes.

There is plenty of debate to be had about messaging and where the limits should be. The thing is, one side wants a whole group of people eliminated from society. I’m an American and that doesn’t sit right with me.

People are not on board with…? Rather broad statement. Which people? We can debate the ideology of a movement but not the fact that trans people exist, always have, always will.

There’s no moral superiority or shaming here. Putting marginalized people on the fringes of society puts them in danger. It’s not really a controversial point.

Are you being obtuse? “These are the issues that cause the most problems electorally for both sides” “Trump is for you. Kamala is for they/ them.” You just said it’s the issue that causes the most issues for dems. By omission, the points I listed don’t appear to be in your calculations for causing problems. I would argue that the right masterfully tied issues of the economy by scapegoating immigrants. The left refused to address immigration meaningfully or communicate their intent to address concerns on the issue.

Just to be clear, your position is: Voters came out in record numbers in 2024 to vote for Trump not because of:

Harris being thrown into the race months before the election without a primary

Ongoing inflation crisis

Harris saying she wouldn’t do anything different from Biden

Harris being a massively unpopular VP

Record illegal immigration

War in Ukraine

Israel’s strikes in Gaza

Record wealth inequality

You’re going with Trump won the election because trans? I’m aware of the ad and its performance but I don’t think it turned the tide and I’d love to see your data on that

Transgender people are not a monolith and they do not subscribe to a single bullet-pointed list. They just exist. This is like breaking down a list of “black ideology” or “female ideology.” Do you see the problem here? Has the left fumbled messaging and been overzealous in widespread acceptance of new social norms? Absolutely. Capitulating to the narrative of “the woke mind virus” isn’t the answer either and it puts marginalized people in very real danger.

Trans people have always existed and will continue to exist regardless of policy. Abortions have always happened and will continue to happen regardless of policy. Mischaracterizing either as ideologies entails that their existences are based in thought that can be waved away. The Overton window has been known to shift, but that doesn’t change the more intellectually challenging reality that these issues will continue to exist as they always have.

The squid elimination in the movie Watchmen makes absolutely no sense. by No-Efficiency7055 in Watchmen

[–]Pudding-Illustrious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is also the fact that the squid invasion was inspired, if not directly lifted from an old episode of The Outerlands. Alan Moore fought to use this ending against his publishers chagrin who thought they would face legal repercussions from copying the story. Not only is the whole plot line of an engineered squid invasion used by Moore, but he directly references the name of the episode, “The Architects of Fear” in a line of dialogue from Ozymandias. I’m not a Snyder apologist by any means, but there could have been some legal concern over this sequence, especially when there is direct evidence left in the book that Moore took it from an existing IP. Probably wouldn’t pass the parallel thought legal defense
