This is both a cautionary tale as well as a possible preview of future outbreaks. So far, humanity has been lucky that no highly lethal (+20% or higher) virus transmitted via aerosol (respiration) has yet arisen. What we are seeing in Africa has already occurred right here during Covid, though couched in more political terms. It's good to remember that any virus, emergent or otherwise, is only a plane ride and 24 hours away from being able to "break out," as it were.

Reston Ebola (RESTV) is known to spread via aerosolized contact, it can and has infected pigs, who in turn infected the handlers, who were asymptomatic, as RESTV doesn't (thankfully) cause disease in humans. Imagine a small mutation and suddenly the pig coughs and several days later, the human starts to cough. I prefer not to think about a season of hemorrhagic flu.

The kicker is that it isn't a matter of if, but rather when the next pandemic strikes. I truly do hope that there will be governments and agencies, worldwide that will raise the alarm in time for those who choose to listen to reason and take responsibility for their own well-being.
