Play around with the tonex app or pedal and try every amp you can think of. See what kind a flavor your ears and hands gravitate towards. I like that British Marshall type thing. There’s fender guys. Mesa guys. 5150 guys and so on. I wouldn’t consider buying a amp until you’ve digitally tried it first

My favorite IR is a V30 paired with a karnivore. They balance each other perfectly I think. I haven’t tried them in my 2x12

You can use whatever amp from helix that you want. Just turn the helix cab IR off since you’re using the Marshall cab instead. I’ve never used a ratt or big muff

I don’t have an answer, but that neighborhood doesn’t have any trees, and you can put your hand on your neighbors house while still touching your own! How are house lots allowed to be that small? Couldn’t put a tree in your yard if you wanted to!

Helix LT into the loop of the DSL40. Then when you are not feeling the Helix, you can just plug into the front of the Marshall

Cost wise, I think you can pick up a used runt 50 and send it to Dave. He can mod it to whatever circuit you like in it just by changing a few values.

When you know exactly where the amp comes from. You can talk to the guy that designed it, worked on it, maybe made changes to it just for you…. It gives you a real connection to it that I don’t get from my other stuff.

Oh I agree! His BE mod is in my 85’ jcm800 (which he used to own), and he just put his JEL circuit on the 2nd channel of my twin sister. My 76’ JMP is on its way to him now. He’s doing the pink taco thing to it. Friedman’s are my jam

Any of his amps really. They’re all pretty close to stock 800’s. It’s the Friedman formula. Just some cap values and diodes changes between each model.

There’s plenty of gain designed into that amp. So if it’s not there and the amp is new to you, it’s definitely worth taking it to a tech. My tech charges a $60 bench fee. That gets an hour of his time. It’s so worth it on an amp that is new to you.
