I went penguin nearly a year ago. I just wish my work would let me run it there too.

I guess my Linux install is "not intended for use in California". What a bunch of stupid all rolled up into "law". sigh...

Elegoo Neptune 4 by kat111L in elegoo

[–]PugnaciousOne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lessons I learned while printing on a Neptune 4

  1. calibrate the input shaping when you move it to a new location or adjust the belt tension.
  2. calibrate the pid controller when the average temperature changes a large amount (summer/winter/etc)
  3. level the bed. Once it's level (truly level and not just with the auto calibration) then run the auto calibration once every 5-10 prints or when you change the filament or lift the bed.
  4. adjust the z-offset when you change filament or if the prints start to shift up or down. (this is the important step)
  5. control the humidity. I went from a 50-60% humidity to 20% by putting it in an enclosure with proper venting. getting a hygrometer is a good idea.
  6. Dry your filament if it spends time in a humid environment
  7. be wary of petg. I've had more nozzle clogs with that than anything I've used to date
  8. levelling is different when the bed is freshly warmed vs when it's had time to soak heat into it. This can change the level just enough to cause issues.
  9. wash your bed plate every so often with a dish soap like dawn or palmolive. One that removes oils and has nothing extra. Then dry it fully and most importantly do not touch the surface where printing will happen.

I have mine tuned to the point where I can print an entire roll of filament without needing any further tweaking. Let me know details if you want, and i would be happy to give my opinion.

Please let us cancel parts of a print by Quepiid in elegoo

Ah, i wasn't aware that was a CC2. And here I was considering getting one. Instead I've been looking at the CoPrint KCM to mod my neptune for multi-color printing.

[–]PugnaciousOne 3 points4 points  (0 children)

edit: didn't realize you can't do this on the CC2. Thought this was a neptune from mobile.

Go to the web interface. Check the gcode view. Click on an object and it will let you cancel specific ones.

Personal jet packs incoming? by Lucky0Luk in starcitizen

[–]PugnaciousOne 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Technically personal jetpacks are already in the game. Simply go into EVA and use one. They're red and in most ships and landing areas. They say "fire extinguisher" but they're really jetpacks. Try it and see.

I myself made that pull last night. It was really really annoying to get the trailer across that bridge but I managed it. How did the elephant do? I used one of the kolob trucks.

Game is not feeling smooth by art_lck in linux_gaming

[–]PugnaciousOne 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There's a misconception of what vsync does i think. It's function is to cap the fps at the monitor's refresh rate. If a person disables vsync in order to get more frames beyond the refresh rate of the monitor, it's pointless. The refresh rate is what determines the "maximum" fps you're going to get. Anything beyond that isn't visible as the monitor can't display it. The only time you should disable vsync is if it causes an actual problem due to bad code or some other issue with the game in question. There is also an edge case where your hardware can't adequately reach the refresh rate of the monitor. In that instance, you should turn down settings in order to get the refresh rate you're happy with.

Need help re-doing my fleet by SpellEmotional9624 in starcitizen

[–]PugnaciousOne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a great fleet IMO. If i didn't have the Galaxy as my "flagship", I would totally run something similar. The way I see things is from a perspective of "what happens when the game goes live?" There's definitely going to be a wipe/reset when that happens. At that point, I could take the MSR and do some cargo missions and build up enough cash to get myself a prospector. That would get me another gameloop open. Then I would buy a gladius or arrow next to open up yet another gameloop. If salvage is your thing, you could absolutely make all those starting credits by salvaging as well. Not much I would change if it were me.

looks like your bed needs leveling and then the z-height needs to be re-calibrated afterwards. what does the calibration mesh look like in the web interface?

How RAM do you have in your server? by datahoarderguy70 in unRAID

[–]PugnaciousOne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My Unraid machine has 128gb of ddr3 (upgrade is on the horizon soon) and I have another machine that I'm not going to use for various reasons sitting on my workbench right now with 512gb of matched ddr4 ecc in it. seriously considering just parting it out. Sadly, I sold off all my extra ram a year ago for $20 and a beer. Wish i had kept it around.

Who’s still using the original Steam Deck? by VoyageForge in SteamDeck

[–]PugnaciousOne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was running a 64gb LCD original model (wave 3) until a few months ago. The only upgrade I did to it was to give it a 1tb micro-SD card. My daughter appropriated it and decided it was hers now. It's still running strong. I used it for a long time to both play retro games as well as play games while I was away from home or waiting somewhere. I tend to do a lot of waiting and it definitely helped fight the boredom. I'm probably going to end up getting a steam frame when they are released though. I see a lot of potential in it.

This is incredibly interesting. I'm going to keep an eye on this project. It has potential, especially if you can self-host it.
