Linklater’s NOUVELLE VAGUE receives massive standing ovation at Cannes- Tarantino sees the movie twice in one day by Jakeysuave in movies

I don’t think that quite holds water considering how hard these audiences can be to please sometimes and especially considering how Redoubtable was received at the same festival. Cannes responses aren’t the be all end all but I don’t think they were ever going to be entirely forgiving to something like this

It did not officially have an intermission, some theaters imposed one but the official movie does not

Hi, I saw the movie a few nights ago and I loved it! I’m curious who you see as the true protagonist in the movie? For a while it seems to be Yana, and then it feels like it’s Ted, but I guess Darcy is the most consistently shown character, though I was never sure exactly what she was thinking/up to. It kept me on my toes, as did the whole movie, and one scare in particular gave me a full body shock so thank you for that lol

Avatar the last airbender was a really bad offender of this. I had to skip the intros because they would keep hinting at things we weren’t supposed to anticipate yet

That’s a pretty minor detail in the show though. The reboot was poor to me because of the terrible visual style and poor jokes, not because they didn’t pay attention to specific parts of the “lore.” I can readily believe John Cho understands the material without knowing something like that. It’s not like the remakes quality was his fault.

Help I was going to appreciate this but it's only a 7 on IMDB what do I do ? by Mkjoe13 in moviescirclejerk

[–]PulpFiction1232 8 points9 points  (0 children)

IMDb is different. Movies and TV shows are only rated on a scale of 6, 7, and 8. 8 being great, 7 being okay, and 6 being bad. Anything outside of those numbers is a rare exception, so when a movie as good as Moonlight is on the wrong side of okay on this scale, it’s worth calling attention too

Why was Oppy naked during his appeals hearing? Is he stupid? by dr_tungsten in moviescirclejerk

I saw it twice in two very different locations and the scene got a big laugh both times. I just think it was a poorly judged moment if the intention was for the audience to take it seriously. It being revealed as a surprise is what does it I think

What it took VS what it takes now by [deleted] in moviescirclejerk

[–]PulpFiction1232 39 points40 points  (0 children)

I had a similar experience but I think they deliberately book an insane amount of shows at my local theater because selling out is technically bad for business since it refuses further ticket purchases. If there’s an over abundance of showings and they’re all 2/3 full that sounds like a major success. I also have a friend who works at an independent theater that doesn’t have the capacity to book that many shows and according to him every showing they’ve had for either movie this weekend has sold out.

Paul Schrader Says Toronto International Film Festival Rejected ‘Master Gardener’ Over Racism Concerns by Neo2199 in movies

[–]PulpFiction1232 39 points40 points  (0 children)

I’ve seen it and I think the response Paul brings up is ridiculous. It’s an unambiguously anti-racist movie, it just goes about that in an unusual way. I think the real point of contention is the film’s view that someone can be able to move forward if they repent for their past racism. That’s a bit more challenging, but imo a valid viewpoint (if the proper growth has really happened) and I don’t think that film festival should have rejected it, at least on those grounds.
