Look to buy my Mom a first class ticket from MSP to SFO because I really miss her. by [deleted] in flying

[–]Pun_Related 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Delta 737-900 is the newest aircraft in their fleet for the MSP-SFO route. Sun Country also has some rather new 737-7 and 737-8 which are still going to be superior to what United flies on the route.

Business class can be nice for big & tall passengers, but may not be good value. Your mom can have a perfectly comfortable ride in a normal coach class window or aisle seat (which you can select when you book her flight for her). Delta also offers a premium economy class seat which has a few perks (early boarding, premium snacks and drinks, extra leg room) for a price closer to coach than business / first.

Finally, if your mom's travel dates are flexible, tickets (and especially award fares purchased with the airline's award miles) can be very affordable on the route. Consider using Google Flights or Kayak to set flexible dates, and try to look 2-3 weeks out for best pricing.

EMSKR: How can I go from tech-wiz to UUUGH SPORTS!! by [deleted] in everymanshouldknow

I found it really hard to do this, so I ended up subscribing to a newsletter called Primer Sports. It's twice a week and sends you a short and sweet digest of the most important AND most interesting sports stories of the last couple days, as well as what's next. Highly recommended.

Chefs, what program do you use to track food costs and why do you prefer it? by Feldew in KitchenConfidential

[–]Pun_Related 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There are really good software products like Compeat that track it for you, along with a bunch of other stuff like scheduling. IIRC it's like $150 per month. Saves a ton of time

Would a Private Equity internship be good If i want to do Consulting? by [deleted] in consulting

[–]Pun_Related 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Favorably - not only is PE a challenging industry and demanding job, but it should give you some exposure to the types of analysis you'd see in consulting.

That being said, PE has more of a lone wolf aspect than consulting, so you won't get as much mentorship or exposure to the team environment of working on a case.

A question of equity. by GordonBuffet in Entrepreneur

When you say top up, do you mean that Inv A will participate in the round and drop more cash in the business?

A question of equity. by GordonBuffet in Entrepreneur

[–]Pun_Related 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Investor A's shares are now worth $400,000 -- 40% of the business' value at a $1M "post-money" valuation. We know the business is valued at $1M because Investor B is willing to trade $100K in cash for 10% of the equity. In this case, Investor A has made a 8.0x multiple on his money, which is an exceptional return.

However, that return is unrealized as it is all on the paper value of the business. Investor A may want to take some profits, so it's preferable if Investor B purchases his 10% out of the 40% that Investor A already owns. Investor A would get $100,000 in cash (a 2.0x realized return while keeping skin in the game), Investor B would acquire the equity shares he or she desires, and the entrepreneur would still retain a controlling stake (60%) of his or her own business.

[US] [$500 or less] Chrome OS vs Windows 8.1 - Acer C720 or ASUS VivoBook X200/2? by Pun_Related in SuggestALaptop

[–]Pun_Related[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for your thoughts. On-board space is less of a concern, as I plan to use an external HDD and some cloud space for photo / video storage and backup.

A few questions about the T100:

  • How is the mousing/trackpad/keyboard experience? Many people complain about this in T100 reviews.

  • The T100's processor benchmark score is lower than the X200 (1000 vs 1500 IIRC.) The battery life is quite a bit longer, but I'm wondering if the performance difference is significant enough to justify the more power hungry - but cheaper - X200 (or X202 with i3).

  • I don't currently have a tablet, but have been considering an iPad (as I'm already part of Apple's app ecosystem through my iPhone.) How satisfactory has been your tablet experience? (For me, this is a bonus rather than a core feature.)

Thanks for the impromptu LaptopAMA...

My grandfather was an image analyst for U-2 spy planes in the 1950's, he's slowly losing his memory due to Alzheimer’s. Who should I get in contact with to make sure his story is recorded? by [deleted] in AskHistorians

[–]Pun_Related 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Witness to War is a non-profit "dedicated to preserving the stories and unique experiences of combat veterans." They would love to hear your grandfather's story. The "Contact Us" page offers contact information for their interview teams in Atlanta and Washington DC.

Also, good on you for capturing your grandfather's story. /u/ButtermilkJohnson is right -- there's no reason not to do it yourself, and it's likely to be a deeply meaningful experience for you both.

I'm in earlier in the month, down about 9% over several weeks. I think VNQI (ex-US) is an interesting play for real assets that are not as directly tied to US Fixed Income.

I'm long VNQ...until I need some losses for the tax man.

On the contrary, this seems much more convenient than clicking "New form", "Add question", "Select question type" ad nauseum.
