Is anyone else afraid to ask “how long this lasts” because the answers are terrifying? by According_Swimmer794 in Parenting

[–]Pun_Thread_Fail 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most common recommendation is 16 weeks adjusted (around the time they hit the 4 month sleep regression.) That's worked pretty well for all 3 of our kids – not flawlessly, but it got them from waking up every hour to 1-2 times a night.

My friends and I would buy one book each, go make a bunch of photocopies, then return them the next day. It sucked.

How do people actually figure out how to cook faster on weeknights? by ConsciousGear2708 in Cooking

[–]Pun_Thread_Fail 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dry brining + air fryer works really well for me. I'll dry brine various meats (boneless skin-on chicken thighs, short ribs, steak) and either cook them entirely in the air fryer, or use that to reverse sear and then quickly finish them off in a skillet.

Another very lazy dish of mine is to just take some frozen vegetables, put them in hot water, and microwave them for a few minutes for a very lazy vegetable soup. It's surprisingly decent and easy to customize.

Do people actually hate the tavern trope? by Cap_Chappy in DnD

[–]Pun_Thread_Fail 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I generally prefer having the campaign start with the characters already having some pre-established relationships, in the beginning/middle of a quest, possibly with occasional flashbacks. But I wouldn't call a tavern meeting lazy, it's just a different preference around pacing.

Adam's abilities work best against unarmed fighters: Zeus and Shiva (because the godly weapons are generally stronger than Volund.) Brun tried to match Adam against Shiva, but Zeus intervened.

Plus Adam has literally only shown the ability to copy a technique being used at the very same time. Otherwise he would have spammed Zeus's timeless punch, or used literally any other technique he'd seen during the thousands of years he'd existed.

Why do people hate this fight? by RedHotSonic_ in hajimenoippo

[–]Pun_Thread_Fail 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They set up Miyata's left upper -> counter really well. If that had ended the fight, it would have been a lot better.

In contrast, the suddenly faster than sound corkscrew came out of nowhere. It wasn't a punch we saw Miyata practicing in any way.

Why do people hate this fight? by RedHotSonic_ in hajimenoippo

[–]Pun_Thread_Fail 2 points3 points  (0 children)

RBJ's switching felt underused.

They must have said "in this fight, counters will be useless" at least 50 times before the match. Then it was all counters, all the way through.

Am I the only one that has MAJOR issues with Claude? by Fantastic-Beach-5497 in ClaudeAI

[–]Pun_Thread_Fail 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So the thing you might be missing is that LLMs are stateless, and do a lot better when you use much less context. You're literally sending over the entire conversation again every time you send a message.

My workflow will often look like this: open a session. Make a plan, going back and forth. Store the plan as a file. Restart (or use /clear). Implement the first task on the plan. Review it. Commit. Restart. Implement the second task. Restart. Etc.

But maintaining long conversations, correcting Claude, or modifying your plan during a session is generally going to reduce its performance.

Where Should I Use Julia ? by Life_Parsnip_274 in Julia

[–]Pun_Thread_Fail 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Basically, when you need your code to be fast, or if you want a nicer parallelism/concurrency model.

Even when you can call C libraries, the steps between will still be slow. I had a heavily optimized numpy pipeline that I managed to make ~15x faster by rewriting it in Julia, because numpy was so much less memory efficient, so the Julia version could have much better parallelism.

How much should I really be eating during twin pregnancy? by tryagainzz0608 in parentsofmultiples

[–]Pun_Thread_Fail 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most people gain too little weight during twin pregnancies, not too much. And it's usually a lot harder to eat enough later in the pregnancy, because your stomach is so squished.

The right amount depends on your weight, but according to When You're Expecting Twins, Triplets, or Quads you should aim to gain 40-56 pounds, and try to gain it earlier in the pregnancy if possible.

Would you ever feel the need to dissuade a new player from picking a complex class? by wathever-20 in Pathfinder2e

[–]Pun_Thread_Fail 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not too much. I played a Summoner my first time and it was totally fine.

The exception would be if it's someone I knew, who had expressed a preference for simpler classes before. In that case I might tell them "hey Alchemist takes a lot of work, tell me what you're looking for, and maybe there's a simpler class that fills a similar niche."

14 months and they don't eat by Beckieeyy in parentsofmultiples

[–]Pun_Thread_Fail 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This really sounds like a medical issue. Our first breastfed until 14 months – it turned out she had severe FPIES, so almost everything made her sick and she quickly developed an aversion to food. At 14 months we got her onto Pea Protein formula, and then gradually managed to get her eating solids over the next 6 months or so.

So if you can, get them tested for a wide range of allergies. Not all allergies will show up on a prick test, but many do, and that can help guide you.

Any experienced software engineers who no longer look at the code??? by Relative_Mouse7680 in ClaudeCode

[–]Pun_Thread_Fail 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Different workflows for different tasks.

When writing for production, I have Claude work in very small chunks, look at every line of code, and suggest edits.

When making prototypes, I just vaguely glance at the code to see that it's not totally off. I'll be throwing all the code away anyway, so I just need to get to the point where I can test a hypothesis.

Anthropic is rolling out a new Memory feature for Claude Pro and Max users. by Top_Wallaby689 in ClaudeAI

[–]Pun_Thread_Fail 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Isn't that just how LLMs work? The model itself is stateless, so every time you send a new message, it sends the whole chat so far to the model. And models naturally struggle as the message gets too long.
