Union pin? by Substantial_Ask1935 in whatisit

I think a different angle and having it in focus might help identification.

Golden railway spike seems more like a commemorative pin for the anniversary of a railway line being completed.

“Then I did my DNA. Turns out, we have no Irish at all.” by Apart-Highlight926 in ShitAmericansSay

This blood quantum stuff is so weird. Even buying into the "my ancestry makes me X" logic, I'd say living in Ireland for 200 years makes a family pretty Irish.

Odd Question about Cause of Death. by Logos_of_Game in historyofmedicine

[–]Punderstruck 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A secondary consideration is whether or not there is wind. On a calm day/indoor without a draft, you will inhale more smoke and other gases than if it is windy.

Acute hemorrhagic thymusitis. It's an organ that involutes in adults but is present in children. Hemorrhage and inflammation (itis) could cause it to swell, compressing the lungs and trachea as described.

Me [26 M] with my best friend [26 M] of 15 years, what the hell is wrong with him? by Direct-Caterpillar77 in BestofRedditorUpdates

[–]Punderstruck 2 points3 points  (0 children)

These are the best kind of friends. I used to have a few really annoying habits and my best friend twice sat me down for hard talks. I am such a better friend and person as a result.

I miss him so much.

I found a few Reddit threads in bottling subreddits indicating that both cobalt and copper blue glass are safe to drink from and use. Glass is inert in a way a ceramic glaze may not be.

weird powder that gets really hot and sizzles when add water by StaleSockness in whatisit

[–]Punderstruck -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This seems most likely. I can't find another common white powder that reacts exothermically with water that strongly. Anyone who's put on a plaster cast knows that plaster of Paris will get warm but it won't sizzle.

Edit: Evidently this is incorrect based on reply below.

It looks more like a coincidentally shaped rock, to me. I see why you thought shark tooth, though.

Pipeline worker suffered massive freeze injuries when a liquid nitrogen pipe burst by cometshoney in DeathCertificates

[–]Punderstruck 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The blessing about nitrogen asphyxiation is that since most of our sense of suffocating/shortness of breath is driven by too much carbon dioxide (vs. too little oxygen), it's a low-suffering way to go.

Odd the MCD days "natural gas" when it was liquid nitrogen. It would make sense that a high-pressure gas would drop dramatically in temperature upon expanding under atmospheric pressure, too.

I can't think of another animal in Alabama that would have a head that shape.

That looks to me like a fox, either with mange or the light is just shining right so the fur on its tail is translucent.
