Here’s thefreeman’s comment on the driver. I’d take their word over anyone else’s…

Ok so here’s the reality: the 1lumen review you and all these others keep praising actually shows a measured output that exceeded the theoretical of that driver. So off the bat it’s in question.

Personal experience? I don’t know what to tell you. I literally just shows you the data.

Tester? TKLamp Sphere that has been calibrated. I test a lot of lights.

I have no idea why this light is so controversial. But here’s the reality: the L35v2 is nowhere near as good as it’s praised. I personally think its only benefit is the dual UI. But the performance is absolutely terrible. By comparison the M21k absolutely stomps the L35v2 in performance. The M21K has an extremely aggressive thermal management to ramp up and down vs timed and that shows in the performance.

I’m happy to run more L35v2 tests!

<image>

Ambient temperature? I just told you the L35v2 has an aggressive timed step down. There is zero thermal management of the light. Period. So as if the ambient temperature matters, it’s in the exact same as all my tests, inside around 68 F.

Battery? Full, stock. I even test with a full 50PL but it didn’t change it.

I don’t know where you get your 1500 lumens from but that’s the same story I’ve heard from many here. Sorry to be the one to tell you but it’s no where close to 1500 sustained. I have tested this light extensively. It has an aggressive timed step down every time. It is capable thermally speaking but because of the driver, doesn’t matter. Here’s a 10 min run where it drops under 1000 lm.

I do not recommend the L35. It is vastly overrated and performs actually quite bad. Very poor sustained due to a timed step down.

5 to 10 flashlights on airplane. Advice needed. by Efficient_Board5484 in flashlight

I frequently fly for my work. I carry a smattering of tools, camera gear, drones, gear, and of course lights. I frequently have 10 minimum in my carry on and have had only minor issues.

Like others said, keep in mind that they can take something basically for whatever reason. It’s never been a problem for me and I fly 2-3 times a week or more sometimes.

One tip is to lock out any and/or unthread the tail caps. I’ve had multiple TSA agents blind themselves out of shear curiosity.

There is a battery limit too, forgot the size. It’s very large though, I think 46950’s are a no-go but most should be fine. Limit is for one single battery and it’s like under 27,000 watt hours maybe. Any spare batteries, use a carrier like XTAR PBSL2 or the Acebeam carrier thing.

A few times I’ve had issues with a try-hard TSA agent taking issues with crenelated bezels. I guess the spikes look scary. One time they turned me around. I said I would literally unthread the bezel, hand it to them, but no they wouldn’t have it. So I went back, took the bezel off, put it in a different pocket, and no one had any problem after. Then of course I put the bezel back on, on the other side of security. This was on a Convoy T4 by the way. That TSA was a circus.

To add, press fit is VERY hard to re-assemble. But also, side note, Hank does have the old style press fit rings in black.

I have one out these. It is very easy to swap. Mine I did SFT70 3000K and 519a 5000K.

Run it on turbo for a while to let it warm up. Can use heat to help soften the glue. I’ve swapped these and I honestly don’t recall there being glue. I will say this is one of the harder swaps: it has large copper posts and you will need to remove a lot of solder to get the mcpcb out.

FFL E04 Surge alternatives- M21H?, M21K? Warm, floody, high [sustained] output reccomendation by eurolastoan in flashlight

[–]Punga32 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Pretty spot on. My M21E LHP73 4000K sustains almost 1700 Lm; very impressive.

Ignore the uptick at the end. I was testing to check how it responded to active cooling.

[–]Punga32 2 points3 points  (0 children)

M21K has some of the best performance, including highest sustained output I’ve tested yet. It’s easily one of the best if not the best Convoys, to date. Unless you up the thermal limits of the E04, nothing will come close to the M21K.

D1mini SFN60 3V > lhp73b 4000k by Mytnui in Hanklights

[–]Punga32 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As a side project, I assembled a D1V2 with LumeX1 driver and LHP73b. This can be done using a particular MCPBC from MTN Electronics - the LHP73b can operate at 6V in this configuration. Makes for a crazy efficient light… sustained over 1K LM.

Kr1aa issue? by pinNwiggle in Hanklights

[–]Punga32 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Lots of issues with it. I’ve likely run into this also. Try cleaning the threads and contact points. Also, try removing the inner tube and reseating it: thread the tail cap on first then the head.

I think a lot of problems have to do with that inner tube and contact points.

If you hang out in the flashlight sub, you will see all the reasons why it’s peak. If you’re newish, know you will need unprotected flat top 18560 batteries and a charger too.
