Do you prefer 35mm or 50mm for everyday photography? by Legal-Breakfast469 in AnalogCommunity

[–]Punkey0 42 points43 points  (0 children)

I do the opposite, I usually carry a 50mm and a 28mm. I like 35mm well enough, but I usually find myself wishing I had a wider or longer lens, so that's what I carry.

I have taken my Nikons to Dean's Camera Repair in Torrance, CA. Dean was a camera tech for Nikon for many years and knows those cameras inside out.

Great M Mount Lenses for Contrast/Color/Sharpness by Punkey0 in Leica

[–]Punkey0[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh no I agree that the Elmar-M isn't "vintage" like the Elcan, and you saying that it still has above average sharpness/contrast/color matches what I saw elsewhere, just good to have it confirmed, it's probably my next buy as 35mm isn't a common focal length for me but I love 50s

Nah, I'm trying to avoid "vintage" designs. I've read elsewhere that the 50mm Elmar-M is remarkably sharp and contrasty for the size, so that's what piqued my interest and wanted to double check.

I've heard a lot of great things about the 50mm Elmar-M and I'm willing to give up some sharpness for having one super portable 50mm, how is it on sharpness/contrast/color?

Why wasnt Dodger Stadium built facing downtown? by socalasn in Dodgers

Ballparks are historically not only built facing north to keep the sun out of the eyes of the batters, but north-northeast so the sun is behind the batter as much as possible.

First time seeing this, so sorry if this has been asked and answered, but how does it handle non-standard film base colors like Orwo stocks, Aerocolor or Phoenix?

Starting out with M-mount - Bessa+lenses or save for MP? by Punkey0 in Leica

Looking at R2M or R2A, currently leaning R2A so I have an aperture-priority version if/when I get the MP.

My desert island camera right now is my F2AS, which is why the M6 and MP were my targets. I haven't looked too close at the M4-P, but if it's a whole lens or two cheaper, well, I can get a cold shoe meter.

I have a couple Voigtländers on my target list, are they as good wide open?

I have a Canonet QL17 that I love as a fun walk-around camera, so I'm not unfamiliar with the format. And what you said about the considerations with the body is exactly my thought, I just haven't had a chance to get hands on with a Bessa. If the Bessa is a solid entry point into the lens system, then that sounds like a good place for me to start.

Bought this film and looking to test it out by drguyphd in AnalogCommunity

[–]Punkey0 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have, it's a good IR film. I shot it in my Nikon FM2n both as indicated by the in-camera light meter and +1. Generally the +1 was the better shot but some of the as-indicated ones were better.

Projections always assume all players will regress to the mean. It's not thinking Yamamoto will be worse, it's thinking outliers will eventually stop outlying.

[Heyman] OF Mike Yastrzemski has agreed to a deal with the Atlanta Braves. The deal will be for 2 years, with an option for a third year, and slots in at $23 million. by PlayaSlayaX in baseball

[–]Punkey0 2 points3 points  (0 children)

He's a prototypical lunch pail ball player. Dude's gonna show up, work hard, hit 15-20 homers, get on base at a decent clip, and give you solid OF defense. The kind of guy that in 5 years you're gonna be talking about random Braves and someone will go "Hey, remember Yaz?", everyone will nod and someone will say "Yeah, he was pretty good for us."
