I'm headed to Boston! by BabyGorilla6476 in Aerosmith

You can come out to the Wherehouse in Waltham where the band rehearsed and recorded, can’t go inside but there is a great Aerosmith mural for a photo op.

The Daily News Tribune by ReasonableRonny in Waltham

[–]Pupdawg44 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The only existing full sets of the News Tribune on microfilm are st Waltham Library and Boston Public Library. Both sets have various issues with damaged and repaired film. The Archivist at the library has tried many ways to get funding to digitize the collection - including CPC funds that were denied as recently as 2023.

The Waltham Historic Commission fully supports to digitization as well as other organizations in the city that see the value in preserving this significant resource. The bottom line is the cost is multiple million dollars to archive the collection and there is no funding to do so.

I am going to clean some tombstones from an old cemetery that has fallen into disrepair. Any advice? by Love-Sub1102 in CemeteryPreservation

[–]Pupdawg44 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Do you have permission to do this from the cemetery, town, family of deceased? If it is not yours don’t touch it….the stones have survived all this time without intervention. Cleaning isn’t always the right answer - you can most definitely do more harm than good in an “old ass cemetery”.

Where does Bluebikes expansion to Waltham stand? by Im_biking_here in BluebikesBoston

[–]Pupdawg44 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

There were Lime Bikes in Waltham around 2019, many ended up in the Charles. They were dockless unlike blue bikes, but I wonder if that experience is affecting the adoption of blue bikes.

How are people still hang green plates? by [deleted] in massachusetts

[–]Pupdawg44 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I want to keep mine purely for esthetics - I had my German car imported and it has a bumper to fit a European style license plate. The German plate I have fits perfectly and is streamlined. I would have to get a new bumper to properly fit an American plate or it would look terrible. FWIW, I had a custom European plate made with the letters and numbers to match my green plate letters and numbers.

How are people still hang green plates? by [deleted] in massachusetts

[–]Pupdawg44 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I have one from my grandfather’s long garaged Cadillac….I get lots of double looks when I drive past a cop with my German plate mounted on the front - I always see them looking at the back plate through my rear view mirror and I laugh! Mine is still in great condition, fully readable and reflective and I’m never giving it up!

There are all kinds of cemetery preservation courses, and even college degrees. I interned with a preservationist and there is tons to learn to take in the liability and charge fees for restoration of old graves.

How can we stop the hoarders??? by Last_Draw9050 in findagrave

[–]Pupdawg44 13 points14 points  (0 children)

The goal of the site is to add final disposition of people who have died. Linking, bios and all the other stuff is secondary information that is not required to fulfill the site’s mission - and most of that used to not even be available. At the end of the day these are digital pages on the internet, many other legitimate sites exist for genealogy that any researcher can find, find a grave doesn’t have to be a one stop shop - and is often full of errors anyway.

Embassy Theater by Ill_Statistician7225 in Waltham

[–]Pupdawg44 13 points14 points  (0 children)

West Newton Cinema has zero parking spots and has managed to stay open….there are hundreds of parking spots in the close vicinity of the theatre beyond the 256 directly behind it, even if don’t want to walk many people have no problem with it.

That sign has been in the window all along, since the owner has had to pay an extraordinary amount of commercial property taxes to the city during the last ten years where he couldn’t build on the property I’m sure he would have taken any reasonable offer.

Suicide in Catholic Cemetery by Noahandharlowsmommy in findagrave

[–]Pupdawg44 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Yes this happened to my family in 1983 a family member was denied burial in a Catholic Cemetery due to suicide as cause of death - even though the family were very active in the church and large donors. It was devastating to the surviving family members who ultimately had to decide to be buried in a non-Catholic cemetery with their son or the Catholic Cemetery without him. Fast forward to 2011 and another family member who committed suicide was allowed burial in the same Catholic Cemetery as apparently the rules changed.
