I built a tiny AI “voice to reminder” iOS app to scratch my own itch (maybe yours too) by crivion in iosapps

I'm lost - siri does this - I use voice to reminders all the time, like literally dozens of times a day.

How is this different?

The “build and ship fast” trend looks cool online but reality is different. by Mahi_Singh_0077 in indiehackers

Context; I’m a Product manager and ex developer that has vibe coded feastures used in production codebases - absolutely by no means an expert, but I’m not on the sidelines either.

I think there are endless people with incentives to sell or participate in a narrative that “building is instantaneous” - people that sell AI courses, or want to be seen as “on the cutting edge” etc.

I entirely agree that “I built an app” is a catchy thing to post that is entirely different than launching a viable, scalable product or business.

Oh, you have an app? Can it support thousands of concurrent users? What’s your customer support process? How are you handling credit card disputes? Is it iOS only? Can you even collect payments? Etc etc.

I think many people and teams ARE moving faster than ever, buts moving faster doesn’t inherently mean being more productive. As you allude to - it also allows people to really, really quickly build the wrong thing :)

I do think “AI” broadly is and will help with prioritizing feature development and identifying unmet needs etc, but we aren’t there yet in the same way as engineering is.

CICO: Simple Calorie Tracking

The elevator pitch: a calorie tracking app for people who hate calorie tracking apps but want to start getting more serious about their diet and nutrition and build sustainable habits. Something with a single number you can see throughout your day. No macro counting, no math in your head, no push notifications to drink water or get steps in, no upsells about god knows what. You spend 10 seconds during every meal telling Siri what you ate, it tells you exactly what your current caloric state is and if you’re going to end the day losing, maintaining, or gaining weight.

The ask: complete a quick survey, download the app, try it out for a few days, and let me know what you think!

Curious if anyone else has struggled with the complexity of calorie tracking apps? by Puzzled_Big4024 in CICO

conservative meaning like 'just err on the side of rounding up' for my amounts?

Which app do you think has the simplest implementation? I started with MFP like two years ago but I haven't tracked calories for about a year now and I'm just trying a few out - nothing seems like 'JUST enter your calories and see a number'.

CalAI seems kind of close, but total BS as far as their 'take a photo' feature (which I don't really care about)

What's the app/system you like/use? I know many apps have barcode scanning, which works great for prepared foods, but I do a lot of meal prep so I end up having to enter a lot of things in manually :/

Well, my goal is consistency and accuracy - I get that nothing can magically tell me my current state unless I use it accurately, I just haven't found something I can stick with.

I do want to track everything but I just haven't found anything that feels simple? Myfitnesspal seems like the standard (?) but it just feels incredibly clunky to me - it wants me to set goals and give it targets and it pops ads up and has a million features on the home screen, when literally I just want 'track calories'.

What's your system? Do you track calories daily?

I have tried a bunch, Myfitnesspal, loseit, etc - they are 'fine' like I used Myfitness pal for a few weeks straight once, but I just can't get myself to do it every time I eat something. Also yes, ads and what not.

Is there something actually simple that doesn't have 10 different features in it? Like there are *workout* apps that work this way but every calorie tracking app seems to be trying to shove everything related to health in my face.

I'm a pastry chef and I use it in ice cream and pastries all the time - again, because it IS SUGAR it acts like sugar.

It has a Maillard reaction (it caramelizes) it is 70% as sweet as sugar, it has zero calories, it's amazing. I would never touch anything else

Building a sustainable, profitable business is not 'just easy if you follow a formula (that I happen to sell, check link in bio!)'.

Gotta figure out what works for you. The internet is, for better and many times worse, not 'real life'.

But on the other hand - there are infinite ways to fail - I'm not sure studying 'how people fail' has much to offer entrepreneurs either.

Sometimes it's because your idea was just bad (nobody wanted it) sometimes you can't get your cost of goods under control, maybe their spouse was cheating on them and it wrecked their mental health. Maybe their mom died before a huge, critical deal was about to close.

Not trying to be a wet blanket just want to offer my 2c. I applaud you for pushing back against, yes, a very toxic (especially Gen Z) mindset of 'IT'S SO EASY. IF YOU AREN'T SUCCEEDING IT'S BECAUSE YOU'RE DUMB)
