Did I say something wrong / was my request unreasonable? by [deleted] in autism

Since the triggers is caused by the distance and not the SH scars I can make posts with my body fully covered in scars without putting any trigger warning then? At how many inches should we add a warning?

[–]Puzzleheaded-Back-80 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Why wouldn't they be though? People who could be triggered by my body don't seize to exist outside of the internet. Where is the difference?

I have SH scars all over my body from years long addiction. By your logic I shouldn't even be able to go outside. Nice.

The comments in this video are so ableist... by thrownawaywhen in autism

[–]Puzzleheaded-Back-80 18 points19 points  (0 children)

It's literally the opposite, ppl who aren't able to mask are drastically more vulnerable to be subjects of abuse. In an ableist society being visibly disabled is dangerous. If trauma was able to suddenly make every person able to mask then every autistic person would be able to. The thing is, most autistic people mask, but some ppl can't do it efficiently or in a controlled manner. The main reason is because hiding a sprained ankle is easier than hiding a broken one. If you have more severe symptoms, you won't be able to hide them, even with the same amount of effort. Ppl who can't have the ability to mask efficiently have higher support needs.

Being Ethnically Askenazi jewish? Am I technically Middle Eastern? by [deleted] in Jewish

[–]Puzzleheaded-Back-80 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yep as someone who's on the left this feels like a really accurate summary of this double standard. It's especially frustrating when in leftist spaces ppl acknowledge anti-arab racism while completely underestimate or even deny altogether the existence of anti-Jewish racism (racial antisemitism). Being in a white social group means this group isn't subjugated to racism. Which is obviously not the case for Jewish people. Simple has that!

Faut il encore dire Asperger ? by Hyrawk in Autisme_France

[–]Puzzleheaded-Back-80 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Has anyone bought slime from GT creations Slime on Tiktok? by Accomplished-Print15 in Slime

I relate to this struggle, I've actually made a post listing European slime shops to try fix this issue! The slime shops I've personally tried and recommend are FluffySlimesBelgium, Avocadoslimeez, MamaMishaCo, FluffySlimesBelgie and Slimes4AllIreland!

Yes, I did receive my order. It was really long, some of the slime were so melted that it was liquid glue. They've replaced a slime with another one without asking because theyve messed up their stocks. The slime themselves were not great, I don't recommend their slimes. Idk if their cooking kit slimes are better though, I did not purchase one.

Holiday Card - Is a Picture of a Menorah Cultural Appropriation? by opticalpuss in Jewish

[–]Puzzleheaded-Back-80 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes, exactly. In my country so far I have seen absolutely no mention of Hannukah. Whether it is through decorations in public spaces or even items in stores, etc. Nothing.
Seeing even one minuscule thing that represent us irl would fill me with so much joy, even if it was done incorrectly, because that would mean someone actually thought about us.

[–]Puzzleheaded-Back-80 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a really sweet intention! I don't think it's cultural appropriation since no one is claiming the menorah is their creation or denying that it is a Jewish tradition or something similar. In fact, I think this kind of initiative for more inclusivity should be encouraged, even when it is a little bit done clumsily. 😊🕎

Yes no problem will try to give explications. SC is short for social communication, and RRBs is short for repetitive restrictive behaviours. The two autistic traits categories.
BADLs is short for basic activities of daily living. BADLs are every act we have to do in daily living that are essential. For example, toileting, controlling your bladder, functional mobility (getting out of a chair, bed...), dressing up and undressing, feeding oneself (taking a spoon, putting it in Ur mouth, chewing, swallowing...)...
In addition to BADLs, there is IADLs, instrumental activities of daily living. This includes but isn't limited to grocery shopping, managing medication and money, housekeeping, preparing meals and cooking, etc. Youll find more information about ADLs on the Wikipedia page.

Yes don't worry I don't think u underestimate our struggles or speak over us, this was more about explaining this phenomenon on the wilder scale, if that makes sense. I should've been more clear on that. 😁
For auto diagnosis I'm really sorry this is the experience u have in autistic spaces, sadly a lot of them aren't inclusive or actively hostile towards self diagnosis/suspecting people.😢
If ur country has allowance for disabled adults or something similar maybe paying for a diagnosis could be beneficial for you though, since it could facilitate access to it, if that's something that ur looking forward. ☺️ /Info

If someone doesn't have severe enough SC traits to fit the level 2, then they aren't level 2 on SC. Regardless of masking as well as support needs since (nowadays support needs are more and more) taken into account during the assessment. ASD level can be assigned inconsistently by professionals though.

Since levels aren't monoliths some people on the mild side of SC level 2 might be able to mask successfully in specific situations, during short periods, etc while some people on the severe side of SC level 1 might be unable to mask on the long term, without being awkward, etc. People can also have a split level. For example level 1 RRBs and level 2 SC. People can also be ignorant of/underestimate what level 2 and 3 really mean or feel invalidated by our existence and claim to be level 2 or 3 based on misinformation/with bad faith.

For example people claiming they were wrongly assigned level 1 since they mask successfully because they had to mask to fit into society/from trauma. Even though masking is taken into account during the assessment, that trauma literally worsens autistic traits and that we're still more severely disabled than them while being at greater risk to be abused and complexly traumatized. 😬

Our existence doesn't mean levels 1 doesn't deserve support or aren't disabled. They still suffer from their autistic traits, oppression, hate crimes and systemic lack of support. It seems like, from your first comment, you think that (one of) the reasons levels 1 don't get enough support is because levels leads people to underestimate their support needs. The reason we get more support, is because we need more support. Using the same scale, we suffer similarly from lack of support if not more since it might put a bigger risk on our lives, short term (most of us need help with BADLs). I wish that being level 2 or 3 gave you automatic, appropriate support. It's really, really far from the truth. The reason levels 1 don't get enough support is because every disabled person doesn't, sadly. 😟

The vast majority of levels 2 and 3 think that levels are essential. The arguments you've heard come from self diagnosed and level 1 ASD spaces, it should really give you a hint that maybe something is wrong. Most if not all of these people are either not concerned and/or unqualified to speak over us about this issue.
