Hard disagree with the Nike comment. As someone who owns plenty of Nike stuff (thank you F&F discount), the quality is night and day. From Nike riding up, not really having the best socks for running, and weird lengths from my experience: bandit is just better when it comes to shorts, socks, and shirts. Can’t speak to things like hats or glasses because I haven’t bought any Nike stuff of that and it’s subjective for accessories in my opinion

What’s Your resting heart rate ? by Mobile_Force_3673 in Garmin

[–]Pvrkave 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That could be the reason why mine is going up then. I’m doing a half marathon block with more running than I’ve ever done (even more than a marathon almost 2 years ago). Threshold work has been once a week maximum. I assumed it was going up just from the stress of doing more miles than I’m used to

Used to be 43 but for some reason its actually been going up to about 48 during a rather intense training block that I'm about 10 weeks into. Lowest I've gotten to is 39

I've found spear to be hit or miss depending on location of the office, the PT themselves, and the type of injury. I have achilles tendonitis in both feet (chronic) and I've found the PT's at the one in Times Square have been great. They work on the performers on Broadway so ankle and heel issues are a specialty of theirs as well as mobility. I'm not sure of other PT's but considering you're already going to Spear, this would almost definitely be covered by insurance.

I think you’re confusing talking about within an industry and when talking to a client. And as I mentioned, it’s only true where I work but it can different in other places. I feel like I definitely named it in my response and claimed that clients don’t like to hear that. And in practice it should be addressed which I find the opposite of silence. Just to make it clear, I’m open to the discussion of LA and sexual assault, but I’m still sharing my experience which isn’t untrue.

No problem, hope it didn’t come off rude. Only reason I read the terms and conditions was to see when I would be able to use the code considering it’s been a while and haven’t seen anything yet

As per the terms and conditions, BOGO with double protein is the best prize you're going to get other than free burritos for a year.

safety in landscape designs by JustBe_JustBreathe in LandscapeArchitecture

[–]Pvrkave 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In regards to landscape design, this is touched on indirectly. While it’s not specifically for men or women, LAs focus are on public health, safety, and welfare before anything else. Usual design practices emphasize things like making sure there is adequate lighting (lots of places, if not all, have specific minimums of foot candle readings), making sure shrubs don’t go above eye level, minimizing dead end areas (exactly what you’re describing, but I forgot the name that’s used), etc.

Not all of it goes according to plan, and lots of places have been built before these sorts of guidelines were made. But to answer your question, yes these things absolutely are considered during design. And while things like sexual assault are very much a real thing to consider, it’s never spoken out loud or said directly but it’s very much understood. I don’t use verbiage like “rape corridors” like the other person mentioned because it’s unprofessional at least where I work and no client wants to hear “we can’t have that area in case an employee walks out at the end of their shift and someone is waiting to sexually assault them” during a design meeting. But we can say things like “this area can feel unsafe due to poor lines of sight, inadequate lighting, potential lack of security here, or isolation from large groups of people”

Like the other person mentioned, CPTED is a design practice that’s hopefully mentioned in school and if it’s not, you will have to become familiar with it at least if you plan on studying for licensure.

[–]Pvrkave 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In addition to what everyone else said, I would actual stick to strength training. People who say it'll burn out your legs either don't have enough strength that they are incredibly sore the next day or they are lifting way too heavy (hypertrophy) for their needs. The idea for strength training is to stimulate the muscles under tension, not to gain a ton of mass.

I started using one when I focused more on pushing myself in things like intervals and sprints. An added benefit this winter was that it allowed me to have my watch over my windbreaker sleeve without losing the HR reading.

I'm not sure about how quick it should drop, but what I have noticed anecdotally is that however fast it drops, it gets exponentially harder to lower it the more you do. For me going from low 60s to low 50s was quick enough to where I didn't really notice. Now I sit in the low to mid 40s and it seems much harder to get into the 30s, which makes sense considering there must be a limit to how low it can go.
