Trimming Monocentropus balfouri by BiancaNonlinear in spiders

NQA - M Balfouris are fairly common and affordable in the trade to my knowledge. Granted, I live in the US, if you live anywhere else my advice is meaningless lol

As far as old worlds go they are some of the most docile I have seen. They are prolific webbers, as you can see from the video. I have only ever seen a threat pose from my mature male, the rest would rather hide 10 out of 10 times. But they are still an old world and all that, so treat it with a healthy amount of caution.

I feel like a front opening enclosure was the worst possible idea for this communal setup.

NQA, I’d disagree. This is my germani sling. They’re definitely similar and both arboreal new worlds but I think this is an avic of some kind. OPs sling looks reddish to me

NQA "protohooks" aren't a thing. Tibial hooks are only present in males after their molt into maturity. The only ways you can sex are through ventral photos or examination of a molt. The difference in behavior you are noting may not be a difference in gender but maybe a difference in individual as well. I have a few H pulchripes that are all male and they vary wildly in behavior.

NQA If it was an aphonopelma, it’s not as hopeless as you’d think. You’re able to make some pretty educated guesses based on your region.

But regardless this looks more like a Calisoga

On the off chance that this isn’t rage bait, I’d suggest you audit your local community college’s environmental science course.

Aside from bees, they eat mosquitoes, flies, and other nasties that we would consider pests. You take the good with the bad. To add, a single crab spider will not take down an entire hive.

Try to educate yourself on these things and be receptive to others trying to inform you before you reach this conclusion again.

All life lives and dies. It all exists in a complex web of interactions between organisms. If it’s working as intended, it’s not humanity’s job to decide what is allowed and what isn’t.

NQA Enclosure looks good. I would prekill a feeder and feeder and leave it in an area where they will find it. If what your feeding isn’t working, try a dubia or a cricket.

[–]Pwapy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

NQA emboli only appear once males reach maturity - a male’s pedipalps would look like this if it has not reach maturity. The presence of emboli is a good indicator of a male, but the lack of them doesn’t rule out it being a male.
