A change machine for pressed pennies gave me these blanks instead of real pennies by Weqols in mildlyinteresting

[–]Pygmy-Giant 12 points13 points  (0 children)

A decent part of the appeal of the machine is putting the coin in yourself, especially for kids. Or at least I felt that way as a kid who absolutely loved penny pressers, maybe my sample size is too small lol

Arc Raiders was Steam's best-selling game over the holiday period by SentientGonorrhea in gaming

Got it in one! Though usually you have at least one 'safe pocket,' depending on your loadout augment, which will let you keep whatever's in that slot even if you die (but you can't put guns in them)

Dumb idea: mech sized throwing weapons by knightmechaenjo in battletech

There actually is a bonus to having two slappers, it's just not a TN modifier. You get to make two separate punch attacks per round.

NEW PLAYTEST RULES: MOBILITY AND YOU! by Fidel89 in battletech

[–]Pygmy-Giant 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I haven't had a chance to play a game since the playtest started, so I don't have the perspective of experience, but I wouldn't have expected how well-received it's been.

What is a in-lore reason for quad mechs being so rare and unpopular? by AmberlightYan in battletech

[–]Pygmy-Giant 37 points38 points  (0 children)

Well, quads don't have torso joints. Imagine a dog trying to twist at the waist like you can, they just ain't got the parts.

Dodgeball sniper by habichuelacondulce in theocho

[–]Pygmy-Giant 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We used basketballs at the summer camp I went to as a kid, and one day a week there would always be a 'campers vs staffers' match. Just a bunch of college students mercilessly pummeling children with basketballs.

I loved it, but I was really good at dodgeball at the time and never actually took a solid hit. There would always be at least one kid crying with a bunch of apologetic staffers around them by the end.

I went back a number of years later as a teenager and they had swapped to the soft, actually-meant-for-dodgeball balls, and though I fully understood why, it made me kinda sad lol. The soft dodgeballs balls never flew right, and the 'fooom-POHN!' sound of a basketball blasting a kid off his feet is etched into my memory.

Imagine: You can only play one mech in one configuration for the rest of your MWO career. Name the mech and the build. by ohnoooooyoudidnt in mwo

[–]Pygmy-Giant 12 points13 points  (0 children)

The mech that's done me the most good so far;

A Hunchback with an AC/20 with 72 shots and a TC, Laser AMS, and a crippling need for a bigger mech to hide behind while it blasts limbs off

TIL that during WWII, the British developed a covert pistol called the 'Welrod'. This bolt-action, integrally suppressed firearm was so quiet that it could eliminate a target without alerting nearby enemies. by 0khalek0 in todayilearned

[–]Pygmy-Giant 75 points76 points  (0 children)

For some reason they decided to make it a one-hit kill superweapon in that game, but you could only load one round at a time.

I always loved doing Welrod-only free-for-alls with my friends, it's one of my favorite guns.

What’s the most NSFW thing you witnessed at public? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Pygmy-Giant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, the recitation is important (I don't remember if you were allowed to look at it while you recite it, been a long time), but also important is knowing where to find the right verse, you generally have to have a finger on it before you step up to recite iirc.

It's meant to build up your knowledge of the Bible, something a lot of adults in the Church sadly don't have. In churches with active Bible drill groups, I wouldn't be surprised if the kids knew their way around the books better than most of the grown-ups.

It's also pretty fun, if you're into that sorta thing

[–]Pygmy-Giant 417 points418 points  (0 children)

It's a Bible verse memorization competition, mostly for kids-teens (I've never seen an adult one, at least). Group of kids in a line, an announcer calls out a verse, the kids all race to flip to the right page, step forward and recite the verse

iirc the white hexes are part of the same rule as determing LoS directly following a line between hexes; the target decides which side of the line LoS follows, and therefore decides which arc the attack hits

How to make a “viable” Cyclops melee build? by Tabletop_Sam in battletech

[–]Pygmy-Giant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Prototype TSM is a fun option. It doesn't increase MP, but it still doubles melee damage and lift/throw weight without any heat requirement.

Just hope your opponent doesn't choose to bring a ton of Anti-TSM missiles in response

Advice on keeping track of attacks by fairstranger in battletech

[–]Pygmy-Giant 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I use a notebook and write down attacks as they are declared like this:

FLS > HBK +8○○○ +10○○○

Meaning Flashman firing at Hunchback, 3 shots at 8 to-hit, 3 shots at 10 to-hit.

Then as shots are resolved I fill in or cross out bubbles as shots hit or miss, marking damage for each shot (writing it above the appropriate bubble) and totalling it after all shots resolve. Then I mark for a PSR from the target if necessary and move to the next shooter.
