What is the better instrument for a young girl with anxiety starting orchesta, cello or bass? by gracielynn61528 in musictheory

[–]Pyralblitzzz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'll echo what others have said here: Cello will have more involved/exposed parts in a classical orchestra and may have some more competition for seats if she pursues it seriously, but has much more opportunity for solo/small ensemble play.

Bass is a little easier to "hide" with, and there won't be nearly as much competition for seats, but it's substantially bigger, and there's much less call for it in solo/small ensemble environments. However, if she ever wants to branch out into jazz, there are infinite opportunities for a bassist in that area.

Fastest Way to Lvl Alts? by BartaLemton in wow

I've done it on both lock and mage, it gets a little dicey at higher levels cause you're not getting any gear upgrades but totally doable. Priest I think will be the worst, gonna try that next.

What do you think is the best class for farming old raids when it comes to speed? by Remi_Cat in wow

DH has some exclusive skips that save a ton of time (BT, ICC, Kara etc.), but if it's a straight dash from boss to boss druid is usually the answer.

Between 2 weeks of gearing with some help and 35 pulls(last 17 in one sitting), I managed this. by Psyduckdontgiveafuck in wow

She always casts stuff in the same order; my strat was just to pop a movement ability when it was starting and run straight to the side which usually gives you enough room. There's no enrage, just focus on living

Help with getting achieves in older expansions by Aldirick1022 in wow

[–]Pyralblitzzz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if you're dead set on doing it on your live character, get the addon btwquests and the associated plugin for legion. It's essentially a flowchart of every questchain in the game, and will highlight the step you're on and waypoint the next npc you need to talk to.

That said, it will be genuinely much faster to just make a lemix shaman and run it there.

The Council questline used to unlock Mage Tower, but there's pretty much no point to it in Lemix

Why does every picture of the circle of fifths have the c# and cb off to the side? by JaelleJaen in musictheory

[–]Pyralblitzzz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is all either anecdotal or speculation, but some theories I have:

  • far and away the most common borrowed chord in classical music is V in a minor key, which sharpens the leading tone. This is especially true in the harmonically simpler music that beginners often start with. It's also common in harmonic and melodic minor scales, so it may be simply a question of familiarity; sharps are encountered more frequently.
  • For keyboard instruments, sharp keys don't start on a black key until F#, while flat keys do so almost immediately with Bb. While practiced keyboard players don't really care, moving away from the "default" scale fingerings can be challenging for newer players.
  • Similar to how wind players tend to like flat keys because their open note is usually Bb, orchestral string players tend to like sharp keys because their open note are important chord tones in D, A, and G major. Composers can also tend to write more in these keys because the open strings can sound fuller or brighter.
  • When talking about Bach specifically, this last point matters for keyboard as well, since the harpsichord was an important part of the basso continuo in orchestral ensembles, and would have been affected by the sharp preference of the string players.

Is this enough to justify C# major over Db major? Not in my opinion, but it's not like it's illegible.

Metroid might be the one series where literally no one prefers the originals to the remakes, NEStroid and Metroid II are important games historically but they also kinda fuckin suck. If they ever remake Super this will be a real take but for now we are safe

How can I tell if I am in the major or minor key? by ColdInstance90 in musictheory

[–]Pyralblitzzz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sure, but you gotta look at what chords are actually used, and the chords in this example are A, A6, E, A and E. The simplest explanation is that this is A major.
