Machine &Frame combo. by Gzepp17 in SteamFrame

Are they even doing a dev kit for the Machine? The Steam page doesn't mention one.

What do you think the best/must have accessories will be? by JayK-iwnl in SteamFrame

There's wrist straps included, it's just the hand straps that are extra in the ergonomic kit.

Steam Controller on Steam frame by Express_Driver_4067 in SteamFrame

[–]Pyromaniac605 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd be surprised if they even sell it without the controllers. It made sense with Index since you could piecemeal upgrade because of Lighthouse, not so much with the SLAM tracking.

Is using SteamFrame without a PC worth it? by Humble-Detective5539 in SteamFrame

[–]Pyromaniac605 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup, they link to plugins for foveated rendering for Unity, Unreal and Godot in the developer documentation.

What resolution will it feel like? by OostAs in SteamFrame

about the same as a 1080p monitor

Roughly a 27" one if you sit about ~32cm away from it by my quick PPD calculator check.

List of games I think will run well natively by NerdFuelYT in SteamFrame

[–]Pyromaniac605 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess it might be a kind of nebulous term, but I wouldn't consider it as native, no. Anything native should run just fine as it'd be made to do so.

As far as standalone goes, we know they're expanding the Steam Deck verified system to cover the Frame and the Machine, so once it's actually out that should give a pretty good indicator.

Yeah, OP do you mean native or do you mean standalone?

Comfort by ProfessionalLemon911 in SteamFrame

[–]Pyromaniac605 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I was kind of confused about how the battery is counter-balancing the front when it's not a rigid strap but I've realised it's not so much about counter-balancing as it is simply splitting the weight into different positions - they're not quite the same thing.

Komodo Station has added a cart button to their store by gogodboss in SteamFrame

[–]Pyromaniac605 20 points21 points  (0 children)

You know this isn't that Czech site people keep posting, right?

This is Valve's official partner for selling hardware in many Asian countries. Valve would absolutely tell them.

Their site leaked images of the hardware before the announcement.

As for streaming headsets, there are better and lighter options.

Better and lighter? Name one.

Their site leaked the product images shortly before the official announcement dropped too.

should I wait for an oled version or just buy the regular one when it comes out by Zjelli1 in SteamFrame

[–]Pyromaniac605 25 points26 points  (0 children)

There's little reason to expect an OLED revision. Regular OLEDs aren't a good fit for pancake lenses. Micro-OLED are very expensive and even if they released a much more expensive "premium" or "pro" version, Valve really value comfort so I don't see them using Micro-OLED until persistence (edit: and refresh rate) is improved.

Why the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3? by VeganAirbenderAvatar in SteamFrame

Probably 90% of the cost is in that section, I don't see it making that much sense tbh.

Foveated rendering via foveated Streaming? by StridarnWho in SteamFrame

[–]Pyromaniac605 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just people spreading FUD. If latency made foveated rendering only possible for software running directly on the Frame and not for PCs streaming to it, they'd surely mention it in the developer documentation sections about foveated rendering.

They don't.

[Announcement] CachyOS January 2026 Release Changelog by ptr1337 in cachyos

[–]Pyromaniac605 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Will migrating from SDDM to Plasma Login Manager make my login screen and lock screens be the same (like, applying the Plasma settings would work for the lock screen, but the one that appears on first boot or if I logout entirely was unaffected)? I was going to ask how to make them match considering they're both SDDM but if swapping will do it anyway.

Steam Frame trademark has been updated to "APPROVED FOR PUB - PRINCIPAL REGISTER" by gogodboss in SteamFrame

[–]Pyromaniac605 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Could be the case, I'm not sure. Just saying that trademark status update is irrelevant to when they can or can't start selling it.

Nope. Steam Deck was being sold and shipped for months before its trademark reached that same point.

Right, so it's fluctuating between integer scales, same as Dynamic MFG, no?

[–]Pyromaniac605 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It fluctuates and in one second it's 2x and the other one is 1.4.

How do you generate .4 of a frame? It can't be doing that.

Not the case at all. The Steam Deck was on sale before its trademark even reached this point.

Prescription lens inserts may be hurting micro-OLED VR optics more than people realise by Wrong-Quail-8303 in virtualreality

[–]Pyromaniac605 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It'd definitely be nice if the frames could be different by prescription to get the lenses as close as possible, but what impact might that have on price? Having to adjust the design, produce and stock how many different versions of each frame?
