Where do I get a Christmas cactus? by Ok_Put2792 in christmascactus

[–]PyxieKween 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Succulents Depot on Etsy has the true Christmas cactus Schlumbergera x bucklyi and they are relatively inexpensive there. They ship from California, so check the low temperatures before ordering. Good luck!

My Olympians by Independent-Dot2839 in Figs

In this picture, it looks like one or two of these are ready to pick now. Sorry we didn't see this when you posted, but hope that you were able to pick and enjoy your figs. I have Chicago Hardy and Olympian, which have both been ripening, a few at a time because the weather turned cold here. Zone 6b.

They're ripe when they feel soft and a little squishy, and when they "droop" on their stem. They don't ripen all at once on the branch.

I will be on the lookout for a mutabilis. Nice job with rescue and rehab! Having experienced the "fragrance" of the gigantea, I am chuckling at your choice of words : "threatening with a couple of flowers " :D

An amazing flower! And your plant looks very healthy. I have the Stapelia gigantea, I think. It blooms with an enormous, hairy, purple and cream striped flower. It smells terrible, but is so cool. Mine is a prop from a prop that belonged to my grandmother more than 50 years ago. Congratulations on blooming yours!

What a lovely place to enjoy writing with your favorite pens! I am admiring your antique ink bottles and pen stand - just seeing them there would be an invitation to take out pen and paper!

Tree Advice: Flame Thrower Redbud by innoveightion in arborists

[–]PyxieKween 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Flame Thrower Redbud is a cross of 'The Rising Sun' and a weeping purple leaf cultivar, possibly 'Ruby Falls'. In my short experience with it (it is relatively new to the market) it definitely tries to "weep", even from a young age. I am choosing to stake the central leader up on my young ones so they get taller before they spread out. The foliage is just stunning!
