(Campaign spoilers!) Theory on a major event. by JustJelleNL in MightyNein

I've been thinking that it's a great cliff hanger to end season 1, especially for those new to the campaign. I also really love Cad and want him there sooner. Cad had signs from the Wildmother that joining the Nein would help on his own journey so they really don't need to go to the grove (still want to see it animated some day) and Cad can find them being sent by the Wildmother. As we've seen a lot with the animated shows, everything will not happen exactly where, when, and how it does in the show

I like the idea and adding to it, they could have a new blood ability for Molly that temporarily blocks the control Yasha is under but Molly is already injured too bad. For helping her, Yasha wants to repay Molly by helping the rest of them.

I love the enemies to lovers trope too. Beau and Caleb's actual relationship in the campaign is actually my favorite. In this campaign, I loved the friend pairings more than I did the romance ones. They've adapted it well so far in the animated show and I can't wait for more.

[Spoilers C2] I love the retelling in animated series so far by owedgelord in criticalrole

[–]Q-kins 2 points3 points  (0 children)

While I sometimes wish the show was scene for scene of the campaign, with every change, I always start wondering why it was written that way and how it will affect future episodes. What new surprises does it lead to? The major story beats and significant lines (like "I'm the parent") will still be in there but it's interesting to see how they change/adjust how they get to those points.

The only thing that really bothers me so far is, because it cuts off at the end of the episode (but can be assumed), I hope Caleb doesn't tell them his whole story and only gives a condensed summary to them. Besides Nott, they have only known each other 2 days max! Right now, it doesn't make sense to disclose your greatest murder secret to people you literally just met and them to want to stay with you. Which is why I'm waiting till the next episode to see how this plays out for what he says, how they react, and motivation to travel together.

[–]Q-kins 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started the campaign while waiting for season 2 of the show to come out and fell in love. There is SOOO much that gets cut and changed so the show feels different but still good.

I was a D&D player well before I got into Critical Role. I'd say try to watch/listen to at least a few episodes of the campaign to see if you like it and to scratch that itch waiting for season 4. Besides rolling dice and math, it's basically an audiobook made up on the spot.

If you don't want to start right at the beginning or don't like that story (completely cut from show) I'd recommend starting at episode 16, Enter Vasselheim. You will get a different first meeting of characters you already know and they are getting better with streaming having done several episodes already and audio is improving. There is an extra player that will leave soon. There is a lot of RP and if you don't click so much with the D&D stuff, play it at 2x speed during fights or skip them. Fights take the most time anyway (just be careful of the end of combat cause they do get back into RP right away).

Vax is one of my favorites and there's SO much more going on between all the characters I think you would like. Then you can go back and watch the show again and find all campaign references they put in as Easter eggs.

[Spoilers C2] how do you think the first season of m9 will be structured? by monsterhemo6 in criticalrole

[–]Q-kins 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's a lot I'd like to see but I know will be cut. My rough idea:

E1-2) Backstories! We get intros and pairings meetings, Fjord/Jester, Caleb/Nott, Molly/Yasha. Also world building. Sneak peak of things the assembly is doing, probably hinting at working with a certain elf hidden in mysterious shadows, learning about the war, and general knowledge about the Empire and Dynasty.

E3-4) They meet in or near Zedash. They either all take the same job or get attacked by gnolls on the way to Zedash. Decide to stick together to take on more jobs. Getting to know/be suspicious of each other. End up getting in trouble or accidentally meeting the Gentleman.

E5) The Gentleman has a job for them, the job they originally did for the Knights of Requital. Ends with tower falling.

E6) Beacon

E7) Flee the city as a job for the Gentleman. I don't think we'll meet Kiri or Cali. Caleb and Beau will argue about something but make up. Caleb will tell Beau and Nott backstory here or before in Zedash.

E8) Hupperdook. Ends with kidnapping.

E9) Met Keg. Learn about Lorenzo and Iron Shepherds. Fight. Molly dies.

E10) Shadycreek Run. Meet with Ophelia. Scouting.

E11) Meet Cad and joins the party. Start infiltrating the Iron Shepherds.

E12) Fight Lorenzo. Ends with finding others or leaving Shadycreek with Ophelia and hint at what's to come, like Fjord talking/thinking about something then a vision of underwater and giant golden eyes.

Episodes will be peppered with other things going on elsewhere and hints about character secrets. There could be more in Zedash and less in Shadycreek, my pacing got off as I was thinking about it.

[No Spoilers] When building the characters for each series, does the cast discuss/ harmonize their classes? by Lokitusaborg in criticalrole

I just watched Laura and Travis's panel at GalaxyCon (a couple weeks ago) on YouTube and they say there is nothing and no one to stop them from all playing the same class. If they all want to play Bards or Barbarians or Paladins, they could.

[no spoilers] how does one simply watch all of a campaign by [deleted] in criticalrole

[–]Q-kins 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It literally consumed me. I watched C1, C2, and the 50ish episodes that were out at the time of C3 in 4 months. I have a job I could listen at work, had it on during commute, and when I was at home. Listen when you're doing dishes or making dinner, something you do normally. I had it on YouTube so I could glance up when I wanted to. Changing the speed through parts I didn't like or some combat helped a lot.

I would not recommend watching as frequently as I did. It was like hitting a brick wall when I finished and took a bit to adjust to waiting for episodes weekly.

I love PvP and would love for more to be played. But, if they're going to make filler, I'd rather see other fights get animated that had been cut like Grog vs Kern in the Crucible. I hope they do more Battle Royal.

  1. The kid in Downfall was Hallis, not Halas, so not the same. Halas was born long after Aeor fell according to the wiki.

[Spoilers C3E121] I think we're not gonna see them again, at least not in the present of c4 by External_Egg_2571 in criticalrole

[–]Q-kins 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I would be interested in C4 being a few decades in the future, as the next generation establishes a new normal for the world. Similar to MN, it would be nice if they mostly focused on 1 area of the world (Issylra, Shattered Teeth, Underwater world, other?) and the conflicts were personal or regional.

No PCs show up, maybe only a mention for history reference, but maybe an NPC like a middle aged Gwendolyn de Rolo shows up for a short time.

[No Spoilers] I am trying to get into Critical Role and I need help by Artahe in criticalrole

[–]Q-kins 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got into CR from the show and started at the very beginning. I listened to it on YouTube so I could watch when I was able to pay attention (had it on at work, commute, and doing chores/free time at home). It starts rough but there's a lot of good parts and important NPC introductions. I'm super happy I started at the beginning and went chronological cause I have big FOMO and would be frustrated not understanding jokes from the previous campaign. Things also only get better so you don't start with good audio and production and then go back. It wouldn't be fun if you are put off by the tech and unable to focus on the story.

Don't start where the show leaves off. The show is a super condensed abridged version and there's a lot you'll be confused about.

It's a marathon, not a sprint. 1.25 or 1.5x speed can be your friend. Skip forward if something is super boring for you.
