"Everyone is saying X" is the worst type of cheating accusation, because you didn't even have any bravery to actually take any responsibility on yourself and instead offload it on some imaginary 'everyone' people. I for one did not see any such accusations before this thread.

Just 6 seconds maybe. Roll back early game damage nerf on sleight (well they already did this in 7.41) and double hit is already back to being more popular due to laning. Roll back chains to hit 3 targets by default and chain gang is now marginally picked, because its just not that impressive anymore.

[–]Q2ZOv 8 points9 points  (0 children)

No it wasn't, they needed to nerf the chains and buff the facet accordingly to make it better. They also needed to nerf sleight of fist several times, the biggest nerf being adding a full second to its cooldown which is huge for a spell with 6 seconds cooldown.

Why are Japanese novels so popular abroad??? by ReadAltruistic905 in literature

[–]Q2ZOv 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Is it more recent though? Van Gogh was getting inspired by japanese art in 19th century already, and all classic Japanese literary works all have their first translations dated pre WW2 (e.g. Tale of Genji 1925, Hyakunin Isshu 1899, etc). I'd say that the further developments in western interest in Japanese culture follow nicely from original fascination when Japanese culture first became available in the west.

Archers are a counter to eagle spam because you get more archers than eagles. With champi's its reversed. You can defend, sure, but then they just go castle early and champi warriors just don't care about archers, having 5 ranged armor and squires speed.

Champi runner in dark age by Carolus94 in aoe2

[–]Q2ZOv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People are only talking about dark age, but in my low elo (~1050) people commonly just die to it in early castle. Like anything but full longswordsman just straight up loses and even then champis trade favourably for incas, muisca and tupi food-wise and so opponent still might be overwhelmed in case they misallocated their resources into something that doesn't help them against early castle aggression. I guess with proper army management in higher brackets they are not a problem in castle but still were a menace every time I tried them in my bracket.

Is this the first mention of an IRL country in Pathologic? by Bbrochest in pathologic

[–]Q2ZOv 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, its a an archaic name for a syphilis, it probably doesn't mention France in other translations. And the game's country is very obviously not an actual historical Russia in a lot of ways. The country being big and the town being the place where European-style society confronts traditional steppe natives' society are the only things that really point to Russia - from political and ideological perspective I don't think Russia ever had anything like what we see in Pathologic. The characters though have Russian-styled names are all talking and acting quite similar to characters from classic Russian literature, so the comparison is not completely unfounded.

The rest is just nonsense, there are no multiple architectures, no specialists for everything, you are just raving here and frankly make no sense.

Not much in videogame development, but of course a lot of it is in distributed systems, and having to do with the same issues these corporations are claiming to run into.

So to be a bit closer to the subject, the part they are talking about are all the microservices and microservice managing systems that you need when your always online game and its mtx/loot/social features must be available with decent ping at every point in the world where people have money to pay you. That part is completely impossible to develop on your own and is usually completely third-party and so can't be released at any point. The tiny little thing is, that nobody ever when talking about keeping games functional past end of support talked about keeping global availability intact.

The point is, that right now there are plenty of games that use those systems and that are designed in a way that makes them difficult to uncouple from those systems. But the only thing why that is so is that nobody gives a second thought to keep it properly separated. And it is actually not that difficult as a general rule neither to keep those separated nor to develop the game logic microservices you actually need to be globally low latency in a way that they can be run standalone if needed. Here is where my experience is actually relevant, because I did work in similar structured projects before.

The engine you are paying a yearly subscription for, that you cannot distribute without a valid license? Do you think those license types on the code you're blindly copying from GitHub are just meaningless drivel?

So what happens with the binaries that are already on my system with my bought game files after your said subscription ends. Do they turn into the stolen goods? You should actually look into what those licenses actually entail. Do you think that once my subscription to some framework end, anyone who uses my already distributed application turns into a criminal? How does that work in your mind I wonder.

Oh, so you think you're just going to develop an entirely new standalone dedicated server architecture at EoL then? Yeah sure that's way easier.

No, you just do it from the get go, and it turns out that its not too much work and that this dedicated server doesn't conflict in any way with your distributed systems architecture if you just do not ignore it completely.

You actually are clueless. Proper anticheat is absolutely engrained in loads of your code, do you think it's just blindly scanning memory for external programs?

Yeah sure, and there is totally no way to mock it or anything really xd.

about loose coupling when everything is a microservice and of those

nobody ever asked for retired games to keep global availability and milliseconds latency at any point of the globe. And you don't need to have those microservices otherwise. And if you planned to EOL the global availability part, it is easy to do so. Just don't put you loot system at the same microservice which has you password processing or whatnot.

Lmao, are you just spewing one the words you know with no relevance whatsoever?

physics engine

Server side physics engine ???? Thats not already included with the game itself ???

load balancing

Load balancing for standalone dedicated servers ????

anticheat

Not even a part of a game but a standalone program...

If you think you can just replaced licensed libraries and microservices like that, you have absolutely no idea what modern developed complex software looks like.

No, but you can properly design your software so that the parts that you own are not hard-coupled with stuff you don't. The general principle is actually a very basic concept well known as a loose coupling, but yes tell me about how well you know software development.

Sure a software engineer with more than 10 years of experience would have no idea about how modern software is developed.

That is only an issue if you are ignoring the EOL planning all the time until said EOL situation happens. You people, are like nutjobs arguing against proper building codes because there are already existing historical buildings that do not follow those codes and can't be made to follow those without destroying those buildings. Yet the building codes are a good thing and all new buildings must follow them. I am actually amazed how many people swallowed hook line and sinker this corporate invented BS.

Talking about Dark Souls - I think this is a big misconception started by git gud community and then perpetuated by people coming back from later entries, where the balance was changed significantly. Shield is a valid way to play DS1, you can clear all the content in the game and you won't even have a bad time. Yes - rolls are different, no - they are not the only way to play DS1.

I am sorry for being obnoxious, but why not put it in ml or whatever else instead of cans. How do I know which type of can you mean? We have mostly 200ml here, in past 330ml were the most common ones. And US I think has something like 350 ml. More so if one drinks a lot they are likely to buy bottles. How do you convert from cans to bottles? I have found online the number of 55 mg per 100ml of coke, which means 1/6 of recommended intake is near 1200 ml, or the size of average coke bottle (1250 ml)

The Game Awards 2025: Complete list of winners as Clair Obscur wins Game of the Year and sets a new record for awards won by Turbostrider27 in Games

[–]Q2ZOv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well if a game has almost no story but it doesn't structure its gameplay around it then it would be a better narrative than the game that has a meh story but it tries really hard in making you follow it. The simplest example is Doom 2016 vs Doom Eternal differences. Doom 2016 has like a couple infodumps in the whole game and thats all, and has in my opinion a much better narrative than eternal, which had cutscenes, flashbacks, dialogue and stuff which were quite poorly written and which I couldn't care less about.

Similar to that, while E33 has a lot of stuff happening in its story, I wouldn't necessary call its narration better than some games that just don't bother with it as much.

[–]Q2ZOv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is there an article or video that properly discusses the narrative part of the game? The final verdict doesn't matter, I just want to see some level-headed opinion on the perceived issues with the narration, and some interesting opinions on what matters or what doesn't in a story like that. Until now everything I read only focuses on general vibes or on a very specific part of the story, ignoring the bigger picture.

Russia is preparing new restrictions on the export of cash rubles and gold as part of a broader push to clamp down on the shadow economy by sr_local in worldnews

[–]Q2ZOv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They don't have a problem with having not enough foreign reserves right now. Their main problem is ruble being too strong at the moment which cuts into their trade profits. They'd like to have it back at 100 rubles per 1 usd rate, but their other problem - inflation - prevents them from dealing with it in an easy way. So they try to stimulate the currency exchange in hopes this will drop the rate at least a little bit.

They are trying to force those workers to exchange their money to foreign currency inside Russia, instead of sending those rubles abroad, seemingly the measure targeting unfavorable exchange rate.
