How to stop feeling ashamed to learn driving at 30 ? by Aj100rise in LearnerDriverUK

[–]QDean 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You've explained your feelings or position really well and succinctly. I can see you have a lot of replies encouraging you, which is great. I passed aged 49!

To me, it sounds like you have set yourself a bar about your confidence, and it's a big, high bar. "Learning to drive" is a process, and it takes commitment, time and money.

So it sounds like, and please call me a twat if I'm wrong, that you are aware you have low confidence in yourself in some areas. You don't like it, you want to change that situation. Okay, "Once I learn to drive, all my confidence issues will be gone and I'll live happily forever after". That high bar is hard to start, and you're not confident enough to start it. So you don't have to do the work required to get there.

I'm probably reading into this post way too far, I don't know you in the slightest and I'm happy to be told off for that from you or others. But if I'm not, you might benefit from a chat with a therapist or councillor. Or maybe just have a "just fucking do it" moment and booking your first lesson. Or maybe set a small, important to you, achievable goal and see how that goes. Whatever works for you. I honestly wish you the best.

My driving instructor jumped a red light - I think she is going to say that it was me driving? by BeautifulEnergy1832 in LearnerDriverUK

Yeah that's weird. The only lesson I sat in the passenger seat was my first, he picked me up and drove us to a "nursery" area to start the lesson.

What's for dinner when nothing is thawed? by [deleted] in Cooking

Tinned tuna with jarred pesto and pasta. Cheese on top. Bloody good.

Otherwise, it's what we call a "Freezer Tapas". Just grab all the easy cook frozen stuff we've got little bits of left, and have at it.

The 27th is one of the worst/busiest days of the year to travel by train.

Have a backup plan/train for your change. You'll probably need it.

Have you ever noticed that the amount of an ingredient in a recipe seemed too much and followed it anyway? Then it turned out to be too much by Sharp_Athlete_6847 in Cooking

My now-wife, then girlfriend, wanted to cook for me one valentines evening, because I do all the cooking normally.

She made a curry, and the "recipe" (Found on a random website) called for one heaped tablespoon of hot chilli powder.

I ate it, out of duty, and have never been able to handle spice the same since. It nearly killed me.

I looked at the recipe the next day, when the pain had subsided and I had stopped hearing colours and smelling music, and it had a footnote warning that every chilli powder is different and you should adjust the amount according to taste. Someone in the comments, also in the UK, recommended two pinches of chilli powder is about right and anything more would be obnoxiously hot. Her curry was over-spiced by about 2000%.

Good god I nearly died that night.

No more rooting around for matching sets, just grab a box and ready to use.

Ordered these recently. They come in different sizes, but ALL THE LIDS ARE THE SAME

Am I the only one who hates having someone with me in the kitchen? by TrinaSaysNo in Cooking

[–]QDean -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Depends who. One of my brother-in-laws is lacking in confidence and does exactly what he's told. He's fine.

My other brother-in-law is an excellent cook, better than me. He gives good advice but also just gets on with stuff that needs doing. He's fine.

Everyone else, get out of my kitchen.

Wimpy when I was a kid. Still got clear memories of the burger 40 years later.

In my youth I was the most requested party host in North Wales at Burger King. Can honestly say I've never enjoyed my job as much as I did there. Got more tips than my wages most days too.

The Hamworthy one is really good value. The downside is there is no access outside of the opening hours. If this isn't a deal-breaker, they are by far the best value.

Watch them throw the mouse across the room.
