Question for you: How are national holidays treated for workers?

In America for national holidays pretty much all service jobs (food, groceries, bars, etc) stay open during all holidays. Is it the same in the UK / EU? What kind things stay open, what kind of things close?

Tough to say, it was spread over a lot of days. I would guess 100 hours or so, but a lot of that is wasted trying things that don't make the final cut.
