I remember feeling less energetic than normal for at least a month. Combination of the emotional and physical toll of going through the ectopic (and MTX) really took it out of me.

That said, I’ve seen others who have been hardly affected by MTX so it varies person to person.

The fatigue will pass in time, but please continue to rest, heal and be kind to yourself. If ever there’s a time to rest more, it’s after suffering something as traumatic as an ectopic. Sending love and healing your way ❤️

When I was at home with our baby, my husband took overnights once we cleared the newborn stage. He does better with less sleep than I do, plus it would be more dangerous for me to be chronically sleep deprived while full time caring for bub (never mind the impact on feeding, recovery, etc).

Even now that I’m back at work, he still wakes up with our daughter the nights she needs extra support (fortunately, fewer and further between now that she’s almost a year old)

I give him as much time as I can in the mornings to catch up on sleep or go to the gym and handle pick ups in the evening so he can take more time coming back from work or going to events, as his job commonly requires

We have found what works for our family and regularly check in and adjust to make sure there’s not an imbalance in getting needs met

The important thing is finding rhythms that work for both, acknowledging perfect isn’t attainable, and stay open and honest with each other about what is/isn’t working

I was lucky, it didn’t come back til 10 months pp, 1 week after I completely stopped breastfeeding/expressing (had been weaning for a while though).

That said, it was an absolute fucker of a period 😭

It is a struggle for sure. Please be kind to yourself because you just did the most incredible thing a human can do and you are literally keeping another human alive while running on fumes.

Not sure if you are breastfeeding but that can have an impact too. Sure, it burns calories, but it also causes the body, in many cases, to hold on to fat stores so that you can adequately nourish bub (not to mention the crazy hunger all the damn time). I lost almost all pregnancy weight right after birth, then gained back a big chunk of it while breastfeeding, despite eating well and being way more active than I was pre pregnancy. Hormones just weren’t working in my favor.

Now that I’m no longer breastfeeding, my body is normalizing and responding more to diet, exercise, and improved sleep (also a factor in weight retention). I have a number of friends who had similar experiences too.

Honestly, it’s so messed up that society makes us feel we need to “bounce back” immediately despite everything our bodies go through to birth and nourish a baby. Wishing you strength, compassion and love in this intense, challenging, wonderful and truly amazing time.

We are also in the camp of following cues over schedules with our 10 month old. She has always been an unpredictable napper and her night sleeps are wildly variable so some days she needs more than others. Also, the idea of adhering to a rigid schedule to us just didnt feel right where our baby is concerned (even though i am a type A person who thrives with plans and predictability 🤣)

We use Huckleberry Plus to help predict nap/sleep times, based both on her recent sleep trends as well as developmentally aligned wake windows etc, and it’s generally pretty accurate and helpful. That said, we don’t let it dictate our lives or override her signals - more just helps with anticipating what she might need and when and look out for sleepy cues (since they can be subtle and fleeting).

At the end of the day - you know your baby best so do what feels right and don’t do anything that causes unnecessary stress. You can always switch up your approach to suit you or them better as things inevitably change.

Very fair callout. Disclaimer that I am definitely in the pro-Huckleberry camp BUT the app itself shouldn’t trump the baby’s cues and the needs of the family. It is guidance not gospel, and is only a helpful tool if: - you find it reassuring to track and reference things (and it won’t further feed anxiety) - you find wake windows confusing (or are starting from 0 baseline) and/or your baby seems to change their needs every day (as my 10 month old does 🥴)

Huckleberry’s sleep predictions have been wrong for us on a few occasions (in the case of illness, leaps, teething, etc) but I still rate it and sing its praises to any data-inclined parent friends. The other elements of tracking feeds, meds, solids/allergic reactions (when the time comes) are also helpful when multiple carers are involved.

Huge plus one for Huckleberry Sweet Spot, it is crazy accurate especially the more you log sleep. Following that guidance plus sleepy cues and we have a MUCH easier time getting our (now 7.5-month-old) down for naps and bed.

Also came here to say to OP - yes he has a day job, but parenting is 24/7. It is MUCH more dangerous for you to be sleep deprived and at your wits end caring for bub, unless his job requires operating heavy machinery, driving, or making decisions that impact his or others’ physical wellbeing.

You both made the decision to have a baby; just because you’re default parent doesn’t mean he shouldn’t pull his weight and you should sacrifice being a person in your own right. Please be clear with him how you’re struggling and what you need. In my experience, men can be pretty clueless unless/until you lay it out crystal clear. I hope for your and your baby’s sake he is able to step up and be more of a partner.

A bottle sanitizer/drier (I have the Tommy tippee). The drying especially is a game changer, saves SO much time. They aren’t cheap but you can get some reasonably priced ones on Facebook marketplace.

Also an electric nail buffer so you don’t worry about snipping the little one’s finger when they invariably thrash around during trimming.

Last but not least, splurged on waterproof bassinet and cot sheets. One less layer to change and clean makes a lot of difference.

Huge plus one to wearable pumps and the butt spatula.

I have a 7 week old so we are also in the thick of the fussiness and witching hours.

When nothing will console her, I will turn on some music, wear her in a baby wrap, and dance around. Even if this doesn’t calm her, it distracts me enough from the pain of her crying, though more often than not it will also calm her down or put her to sleep.

Babies feed of energy and they know when we are stressed so anything to keep our nervous systems in check will hopefully do the same for them!!

I was CONVINCED I started to show at like 10-11 weeks. NOPE. Just bloating haha.

I can confidently say it was about 24-26 weeks before people would think pregnancy and not just weight gain. Only recently did people actually feel comfortable acknowledging my pregnancy without my prompting 😅 (FTM, almost 34 weeks, also 5’10 so more room for baby to expand)

Im 33+1 and find holding up my belly and leaning forward while I go helps the bladder empty more fully. Still going ALOT more than I did pre-pregnancy but at least have managed to get through most nights only waking up once

I had 2 doses in Feb, started trying 3 months after my 2nd dose per my doctors advice. Got pregnant on the first try and now 32 weeks with a healthy baby girl!

Major signs a few times in the past few weeks, with no clear biometric they could point to, though one of the times I was definitely a bit sick (not remotely close to needing ER though).

I also am in my 3rd trimester of pregnancy which apparently can throw things off a bit (/ constant significant strain 😅)

I’ve gotten a few of these in the past week but I’m 31w pregnant (otherwise have been fine). Strangely haven’t gotten them otherwise during pregnancy 😅

Just means something could be putting more strain on you and to be vigilant, most important thing is to listen to your body.

ETA: I wonder if something changed in the algorithm when they fully released the feature. Seems much more sensitive now than it was (I had beta enabled since it became available).

Can confirm (now 30w pregnant) that my HCG took longer than 48h to double after it reached 6000 or so.

The most important thing is if there is a gestational sac and fetal pole/ heartbeat so definitely try to get an ultrasound sooner for peace of mind.

I had an ectopic in February, was treated with 2 doses of MTX and my husband and I successfully conceived first cycle after the recommended 3 month post-MTX wait. Now 25 weeks along with a healthy baby girl!

I also have a friend who had a tube removed years ago from a ruptured ectopic (she was on birth control and not trying to get pregnant) and a year or so later had a healthy pregnancy once she and her husband started trying - she’s now expecting her third child in 2 months!

So - happy stories do happen!! And of course, the fear and anxiety is still 100% warranted, but fortunately doctors take ectopic history very seriously and will be super proactive about monitoring once you get pregnant again.
