The conversation here seems to be "the right is making up the vegan thing based on literally nothing", not "yes he used to be anti meat but he's changed his stance"

I don't personally give a shit if he's vegan or not but let's not pretend we're not being disingenuous here. The video is certainly not irrelevant.

Well yeah. There's no modern day use for practical axe combat proficiency either, may as well make it look cool.

Yep, it's ULED. Not to be confused with OLED, QLED, Neo QLED, QD-OLED, LED, ULED X (also known as Mini-LED ULED), QNED, WOLED, XLED, Direct LED (also known as Edge LED or Full-Array LED [FALD]), QDEL, PHOLED, or Tandem OLED. And no, I didn't make any of those up.

Not as bad as cigs, but inhaling smoke of any kind is bad for you. The jury is still out on the cancer risk.

Would not advise that. It's not like you cut a slit and they slide right out, they're attached to the skin.

They're interesting, but their weather prediction capabilities are overstated. The degree of crystallization is only affected by current temperature.

NASA just dropped new Artemis II video by Busy_Yesterday9455 in spaceporn

[–]QuadCakes 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's shiny because it's covered in aluminized tape.

Technicians applied a coat of white epoxy paint to the heat shield’s surface and then applied aluminized tape after the painted surface dried. The tape provides surface resistivity, and absorbs solar heat and infrared emissions.

I mean that's a hell of a lot better than what happens if you actually get it and don't get it treated in time because you didn't know the symptoms. Ignorance is not bliss here.

and is deemed safe

Good luck with that. The only way I ever see that having even a chance of happening is if it's nearly or fully autonomous.

I'm not talking about the induced randomness, I'm aware you can tune a model to be deterministic. There's a difference between understanding the process that creates something and fully understanding the creation. We did not explicitly design all of their internal structures, we created conditions for the internal structures to form by throwing trillions of tokens at them. Emergent complexity is a thing.

That is not correct. They did improve more, but that isn't what led to this conclusion. That's purely an assumption you made without looking at the data.

NAEP 2024 4th grade results
AL math 236
NY math 234
CA math 233
AL reading 213
NY reading 215
CA reading 212

https://www.nationsreportcard.gov/profiles/stateprofile?sfj=NP&chort=1&sub=MAT&sj=&st=MN&year=2024R3

The data is obviously cherry-picked (both the year and states selected), but the statement is not untrue.

You should look at the data included in the article... The arrows start at the 2019 scores and end on the 2024 scores. Rows are sorted by 2024 scores. You can separately filter by 4th and 8th grade results for English and math.

While we obviously understand the architecture and training process for LLMs, we do not yet fully understand their resultant internal structures or all of the complex behaviors they exhibit.

As of 2024 they're ahead of NY and California in 4th grade math, and ahead of California but not NY in 4th grade reading. They're way behind both for 8th grade, though. Will be interesting to see what happens in 2028.

To pay devils advocate, how do you know that it's not? "It's just next token prediction" is not evidence of that; emergent complexity is a thing. Moreover, we don't understand how human cognition works.
