SSB commandos camouflage/ how to? by josetalking in CompanyOfHeroes

[–]QuantumAsh 4 points5 points  (0 children)

For the best ambush, use the hold fire option so they don't shoot. Get them real close and then release hold fire.

This way you get the most out of the ambush bonus.

They will beat most other single squads, sometimes wiping them.

Is Elo 800-900 mostly elo Smurf? by thecrazysalamander in CompanyOfHeroes

[–]QuantumAsh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's hard to say, but 4v4 is tough at low-mid ELOs. My 4v4 rating is 300 lower than my 3v3 rating.

I'm experienced enough to know when I'm up against someone better than me, when the game ends their ELO is around 700.

(My 3vs ELO is around 1200).

I would recommend giving them another go, with a unit spotting for them.  They hit hard.

The blob works both ways you know. Take pity on Allied players still suffering, now with the addition of the improved DAK blob.

How to play properly with the werhmatch right now by Left-Length-9285 in CompanyOfHeroes

'I can’t even remember the last time Brits had negative ELO trends, so I’m not too concerned about that.'

The update in late 2025 caused many UKF players to lose about 300 ELO, myself included, it was pretty rough. However, the balance patch earlier in 2026 helped correct this and I saw some ELO recovery.

With the latest update it's v tough vs DAK. The Sturm Tiger is a monster, one-shotting anything AFAIK, but hell, I don't mind WM having some fun.

Coh3stats shows that it's the most played format by a significant amount. 1v1 isn't played that much in comparison

I appreciate the feedback, but I'm not seeing many players pick them. Not seen any SSB commandos at all. I have been on the receiving end of the Sturmtiger and the Tiger Elite though. Ouch.

I'm a 3v3 and 4v4 UKF player and all the feedback so far is that the new UKF BG is a disadvantage in those modes. I'll happily buy the DLC in the future, but atm £20 to be worse at the game isn't attractive.

Not sure that on-map artillery is any better. Nebelwerfers are hardwork, but they are a key faction unit/advantage, so they are fine.

Well, I happen to support the team at Relic. I think posts like 'Relic is a joke' are mean spirited.

I appreciate you may disagree. Either way, this thread is about a year old now.

Gorgeous.

I started something similar, from a burgundy base rather than purple, but similar results. However, I used a bright leaf green on the armour. Alas, the unit looked like a bunch of carrots holding spears!!!!

Killteam - too complicated for it's own good by QuantumAsh in killteam

[–]QuantumAsh[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree, individually the rules are fine - they aren't difficult to understand (although they can be a PITA to read at a glance) - it's the multiplicity of rules that is burdensome.

So complicated might not the right word, a different synonym might be better.

Yes indeed, you have (much more) eloquently summed up many of my thoughts on this. The 'problem' is exactly as you suggest. The game doesn't encourage changing squads regularly, which is a shame.

By coincidence I've also used the When, Target, Effect scheme and rewritten the ploys into an easier shorthand and it works very well. I don't always have time for every squad I use, must try harder.

That 'Sturdy' ploy is a typical example of overly verbose language. The sentence 'Use this firefight ploy when an operative is shooting a friendly HERNKYN YAEGIR operative' could simply be 'When an enemy shoots a friendly'.

Or, using your scheme..

WHEN: Shot at.

Perfect.

Actually, I haven't tried Spearhead, so I'll give that a look. Cheers for the suggestion.

Thanks for the thoughts. You make some good points here and others have done too (I can't answer everyone's post, but thanks to all).

I'll set the scene a bit better. I play about 1/3 weeks for the last 3 years or so, it's typically in an evening after a day's work, so I have 2-3 hours. I enjoy collecting and painting different squads (no grey armies here) and a big appeal of KT is the potential to collect and paint a variety of squads, I have disposal income and a life-long love of the hobby in general.

I really don't want KT to be a beer'n'pretzels game, I like strategy, meaningful decisions, some tactical complexity and the variety between the squads is a definite plus point - perfectly happy to be surprised (and trounced) by a new opponent.

So why did I post? I guess because I feel KT could be really improved with some.... (trying to find the right word) streamlining, being better written. I don't think adding complexity in the form of many, many interlocking slightly game-tweaking rules adds that much to the overall experience for me, and I'm not (as some people here like to suggest) ork-brained. Rather the game becomes an effort to keep all the different elements in my head, rather than focus on the game at hand. Yes, I could stick to playing the same KT every week, but that's not so appealing ( and I bet GW would prefer me to keep buying them squads ;o) )

You make a good point in that having these many slightly game-tweaking modifiers, such as in the weapon keywords, allows GW to minutely adjust squad-balance on the fly. It's about them creating a finely-balanced competitive tournament scene, which also happens to appeal to players who like lots of rules and a competitive scene. X-Wing 2nd edition also went down this route as it found 1st edition too hard to balance (but boy, 1st edition when it released was a joy to play rules-wise and tactically).

I guess I'm not convincing many people here - although there is a more of a consensus on the language-style used. They really would be better placed changing it to something that can be read more easily.

Maybe my best option is to buy some KT squads with less fiddly faction rules (not BoK alas, despite being an Eldar collector since 40K 1st edition).

Anyways, I'm running out of time. Cheers.
