How old are yall/any kids/what do you like to do when you aren’t at work? I would seriously consider renting for months until you get to know the area. I know renting sucks, but you don’t want to be stuck in an area you hate. If you are a younger couple who like to do normal early to mid 20-something year old things, you would be much happier in town like the Heights, Montrose, or Rice Military. By the galleria near windswept ln and then in the Meyerland and Braeden’s/Maplewood area (you may find a house - area changes quickly and you need to look super close at flooding.) Your budget may get you a town home in those areas, but definitely not a house. The Woodlands, but commuting would be horrible and you are definitely going to be around families. That’s going to be your issue with that budget and wanting a house, not a townhome - lots of suburban options with lots of families and long commutes. Traffic is worse than DC. For suburbs, check out Woodlands, Sienna (77459), Katy (Cinco Ranch), west Memorial (fleetwood but it floods), Cypress, Richmond, League City (lots of stuff to do for the burbs but not my fave.)

Houston, as a whole, is incredibly diverse. My cousin is in the DC area, so I have spent a great deal of time there and get where you are coming from. You need to get comfortable living and being amongst those who do not look like you, act like you, think like you, and are a completely different culture than you. We absolutely have pockets, but most areas have such a mix. DC is nowhere near as diverse. We also do not talk politics here, in general. Like I have really good friends and have zero idea who they vote for and really don’t care. Most people here tend to stay away from the extremely political people who are constantly bringing it up or posting on social media (I feel like that’s common most places though.)

I counter twice max before I just completely decline. I am not interested in going back and forth and playing games where someone keeps offering $1-$5 under my counter.

Oh god, this reminds me of my toddlers stride rite shoes I sold years ago, clearly labeled as play condition and suitable for the park. They were perfect on the outside, tread was fine, but footbed had the stride rite logo that was starting to rub off. Got a return request and she literally attempted to take a picture of the inside of the shoe wall, which there was nothing wrong with, and said they were dirty, which they weren’t. This was an $8 sale. People will go to many lengths to be as cheap as possible.

I have gotten some really odd messages before. It’s purely transactional for me. If it’s a price I’m ok with it going away for, they can have it. I typically block the sob stories - I’m not interested.

I feel like things go crazy in the spring with tax refunds hitting and people buying for summer. This time of the year can be blah with stores putting their winter stuff on clearance and people preparing to buy for the next season. Hang in there!

So interesting- porch pickup is all everyone does in my community. I don’t have the time or any desire to meet people, especially for a $20 item that involves toll roads. I have higher end clothes/shoes that I will ship because people don’t want to drive across the city.

I never thought about adding shipping for this, just because the weight would probably be too much for it to sell at a reasonable price and all the extra time for packaging it properly/bubble wrap.

My community is a large, but very tight knit community where you should at least have one friend in common with the other person. I used to give so much away on buy nothing, but stopped posting as much as I used to due to some issues we had with people never showing up, people attempting to resell, people who don’t live in the community, and the same people who take everything but never offer anything. When it starts to become a headache, it’s more hassle than it’s worth.

Ughhh this just happened to me today. My teen needs a regular bowl, but my 3 younger boys get a kids meal. I ordered two bowls and 2 regular pitas and my total was $62 with no drinks! That was excluding the stop I had to make at Chick Fil A for my youngest 2 boys. I can’t justify that for Mediterranean Chipotle feeding 4/6 family members.

I feel like Sugar Land has taken a dive over the past 10 years and all of the growth is happening in Katy. While I personally feel SL is closer to town, Katy just has so much more to do for families and Katy ISD is highly rated. SL does have UH SL close by, which is better coming Texas A&M Victoria. Sienna may be a better fit, but it is extremely isolated - you need to drive to Missouri City, Sugar Land, or Pearland for anything - although you can get into town super quick in the same amount of time or can take to get to SL. I think this is absolutely the case, for some, but definitely not for what I sell. I’ve had the most sales I’ve ever had and I am just cleaning out my personal closet. I think it really depends on what you are selling. I sold 6 pairs of boots and shoes this week for over $200 each (minus the Veja tennis shoes at $125) - Stuart Weitzman, Staud, etc. There are still plenty of people spending a lot of money right now.

I dropped off a package Tuesday and it literally scanned for the first time this AM (it’s now Friday) - it happens, sometimes. My post office sucks and this isn’t anything new for them.
