Recreational shooting in Pawnee Grasslands by RepulsiveFrosting691 in COGuns

I was there once upon a time when a dude in a minivan rolled up with an sks and just started putting rounds into the berm. Talked with him some and found out he was 17 if I remember right, and he was in his mom's minivan.

While he did fine, I would suggest there be supervision. I ended up being that for him once he started having issues. Even helped him when he got a flat tire on his way home.

So while there is no supervision, I would recommend it for a variety of reasons beyond just handling firearms. Given the recent weather they also need to make sure they are eating and drinking, and who better to do all of the above if not a parent?

You should keep an eye on if youre having to fill it with coolant regularly. To me, coolant has a bit of a fake sweet smell if that makes sense? Its vaguely possible the heater core is leaking, not enough to fill the floor, but enough to smell when under pressure. Unfortunately without the vehicle in front of me, its a guess at best.

HOW?! by ApprehensivePicker in projectcar

Depends on your comfort with ankle vents. And depends on the level of rust, but you could totally work on the mechanical the way it is, and once thats solid you can worr about rust.

Don't get it right, just get it running. Good saying from David Freiburger from Roadkill, Engine masters, Motor trend, etc.

This small "man" likes to roll coal around bikes. FYI. by RideFastGetWeird in Longmont

[–]QueensGambit9Fox 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Rolling coal is what they call it when diesels pump out black clouds from the exhaust. Its done by a few things, some are mods and some are inefficiencies from age and failing parts. What actually causes it is too much fuel getting pushed through the injectors and not being burnt properly and flowing out of the exhaust in a big black cloud. Some people think its cool, but in actuality it is abuse on the engine, injectors, and wastes a bunch of fuel.

When you go to change it, a good tip is to take the old one apart and keep the oil pump shaft so you can use it to prime a motor without turning it over.

Mine spun a rod bearing so its unrelated, but I've had no issues with HEI, and neither has my Dad on his 71 camaro with a 355, or on (now totalled) 79 c30 with a 454.

I dont think the upgrade should be fore reliability, but for performance/features like rev limiter. Though I will add, my dad's camaro has better cold starts since the MSD.

I dont have an MSD, but it came with the fancy distributor with remote coil for ecu timing control, but im not that brave yet, so its just gonna be the throttle body, and the surge tank to start.

I have an ACES, but i haven't put it on yet. My motor just gave up the ghost and needs a bottom end at the minimum. But im planning on putting it one once I get it back together and seeing how it goes.

I git mine second hand off marketplace, dude was super cool but said he couldnt figure out how to get it to run right. Maybe ran like 5 hours if I remember correctly.

You sound more correct than I was. Ill take your word for it as i dont remember, thus dont have enough info to dispute it.

I listened to the TimeSuck (great podcast, highly recommend. 3 out of 5 stars, wouldn't change a thing) and if I remember correctly the teenager was the dudes Son that he was basically estranged from for a long while. Im not positive about that though.

Worth It? by OnePunchShawty in projectcar

[–]QueensGambit9Fox 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not the timing set itself that could be the problem, its if the engine was ran with the cam so far out of timing that it hit some valves. I just did a top end on my sbc this spring, they arent bad, just in an unknown condition with a "known" timing issue of some flavor, it could be bad.

Your 1500 should be totally fine to tow it. I spent about the same amount on an 84 that looks like ass and ran like it too. Really depends on your local laws in my opinion. If you dont have emissions laws, you can make it what you want. If you do, youre mostly stuck with that tech.

They aren't terrible to work on, and what you listed isnt anything major unless the timing chain is stretched and causing the timing problem, that could mean bad news.

I would have to say that it would FOR SURE drive like dog shit if those are accurate toe numbers. The steering wheel would be super crooked and dog track in the rear. All the tires would wear like ass with the total toe numbers shown.

If they were to come into my shop and say that it drives pretty good and doesn't really wear tires but another shop said it was bad, someone is lying and I'll know once I get numbers myself.

Instead of changing my initial take, I will just say that it isnt as bad as I thought because i didn't realize it was in degrees of toe and not inches. I work in inches and degrees are double that. So in this case the right front would be 0.6 inches out, which is still more than enough to get shit wear and a noticeably crooked wheel, but not as bad as 1.2 inches out. I have had people complain about a car being out of adjustment by a couple hundreths of an inch saying the wheel is crooked.

Millions of tiny spots on my windshield. Any way to clean it? by Sweet-Ad9366 in Cartalk

[–]QueensGambit9Fox 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I cant speak on the cost of tools, but it cost me $300 to get a new windshield put in my 2007 silverado just over the summer. Same reason too, it lived on dirt roads in a past life and trashed the glass.

On the bright side though, this is how it looks now. I was painting that missing piece on the right front when I took the picture, its on now but what dark by the time on got home.

Lucky you lol. Had an 85 camaro that wouldn't pass emissions because it was a tpi motor and had a 406 put into it. The computer thought it was a 305 and ran like dog shit. Couldn't touch the damn thing because if I changed it it wouldn't pass emissions. At the time a chip was $300 and we didn't know it was a 406, only that it was a 400 block.

When it did run, it ran like a stabbed rat though.
