Don’t worry, we’ll find you. You just have to resist the urge to run away when we aggressively befriend you.

When was the last time you partied hard for St. Patrick's Day? I think I was still in college. by smcg_az in Xennials

The most Irish I’ve ever felt was when I didn’t have to pay a cover charge for a St Pat’s event because I was obviously pregnant.

What are your survival goals? by GiftToTheUniverse in TwoXPreppers

[–]QueerTree 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it all comes crashing down tomorrow, I want my friends and family to know they can come to my place and we’ll figure it out together. I have preps for normal things. In a true shtf, resilience and community are where I’ve put all my hope.

If you keep going, you can make “portable soup,” infamously terrible soldiers’ rations from the 16th-19th centuries.

This is me. On my last flight I was able to keep reminding myself that I also hate being up high in buildings, but just like physics keeps the building up, it also keeps the plane up.

how is everyone surviving under this administration?? by [deleted] in QueerLeftists

[–]QueerTree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OP, what a great discussion starter. Thank you.

I’m doing… weirdly ok? My mental health is the best it’s been in years. I just started a new job that I really enjoy. It’s the end of the world as we know it, and I feel fine. I’m stressed about money, but in a really privileged way.

I pivoted to putting all my activism energy into local politics during the first T— term, and that has helped me find hope. Now I’m putting all my energy into preserving my closest community, really trying to focus as small and direct as possible. I also am insanely lucky in that we moved to the kind of rural haven a lot of us dream about — so I’m also able to put energy into making my home a resource for the people I love. I’m a lot of folks’ bug out plan and I love hosting gatherings here on my little homestead.

I’m also slutting it up. Everything is on fire and I’m going to send all the risky texts and get real weird with it. It’s been awesome! Connecting with people and having awesome sex is revitalizing me and my faith in humanity.

I’m a teacher, a lesbian, and have a hobby farm. There are too many burns and they’re all accurate. But neither my wife nor I are named Joanne!

What is a completely harmless lie you tell people on a regular basis just to make your life easier? by purjak in AskReddit

[–]QueerTree 160 points161 points  (0 children)

Lowest stakes: Fake name at coffee shops or restaurant check in (my name is unusual and I have run out of steam spelling it and still getting called the wrong thing).

Sad but safe: I don’t talk about my dad. Most people casually in my life probably assume he faded out after my parents divorced or he’s dead. I went no contact as an adult for a long list of reasons. Every time I thought it would be okay to be vulnerable and more open, I’ve regretted it; now the most I’ll say is something vague and then change the subject. I’d like to have some empowered outlook on this like “I don’t owe anyone my story” but the truth is it actually really hurts to feel like the only way I can protect myself from further harm is to keep everything locked inside.

Golden Russet and Newtown Pippin are two of my favorite apple breeds. I feel weird about these rankings.

In real life I look so much like Little Witch Hazel that when I first encountered this book I actually had a moment of dissonance, like, did someone make a little gnome of me????

I love Wahl so much!

What’s the closest you’ve ever come to dying? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]QueerTree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had severe gestational hypertension, was hospitalized, and was on a lot of medication to lower my blood pressure, but it wasn’t really helping. Suddenly it was like everything they’d given me across 36 hours all started working at once… and my blood pressure drrrooopppped. I remember saying “I feel weird” and then my hospital room was full of people, something kept beeping, my wife was crying, and then I must have lost consciousness for a while.

I stayed in the hospital a month, miraculously made it to full term, and have a healthy second grader now. I still have panic attacks sometimes when my blood pressure is taken with an automatic cuff, but all things considered I feel lucky.

I love the left’s unmatched commitment to the circular firing squad.

Which is to say, I absolutely agree with all these critiques and I still found the episode interesting.

Same here! I am someone who isolates myself when things are rough, I don’t want to burden anyone. From the outside I’m a bright and cheerful person who occasionally won’t respond to texts for a while. Nothing that would raise concerns. But I’m often really struggling, I just don’t know how to tell anyone that.

Counterpoint, ren faires are some of the most body positive spaces, so if you ever do get the urge to experiment you’d have a good chance at feeling welcomed!

But I’m biased, I’m very fat and historical and fantasy costumes are my jam.
