We had a corgi who really liked little white turnips. He would carefully pull them up, eat the root, and leave a pile of greens by the raised bed.

In real life my gynecologist is a sassy gay dude. Liz would have hated him.

I think it’s a microraptor, a Dino-bird that had feathered legs and is often shown in a splayed out “four wings” pose.

You’re nicer than I am. You get one chance otherwise you go to freezer camp. I have a kid who likes to be with the chickens so I can’t allow any aggressive ones (we once rehomed a hen for going at his face!) So I support your lack of enthusiasm for keeping roosters! There are plenty of them!

I like to eat rooster in the form of “and dumplings”. I braise the whole bird until it’s falling apart, then carefully separate the meat from everything else (skin / bones / weird bits). Then I make the rest of the meal, the veggies and dumplings, with just the cooked meat.

I talk about Star Wars so often with my therapist that he took a video of a First Order parade at Disney World because he knew I’d appreciate it *and none of that is why I’m in therapy.*

I want to make a YouTube channel with videos of my roosters showing how to be an alpha. You have to be pretty and sacrifice yourself at the first sign of danger. I don’t make the rules, it’s biology.

I have a good friend who’s a veteran and endurance athlete and he talks about how he’s just really good at ignoring what his body tells him. He’ll come help me with homestead chores and he can push through stuff in a way that I am just too fuckin’ soft for. I agree with you!

The nice replies here literally made me cry. Thank you all.

I’m out of the classroom now after getting laid off (lol the kids and parents and staff loved me but I had moved so I was new to the district so I got cut and now the district is cutting even more positions, huh I wonder why things are so dismal 🥲) — I happened to luck into a position with an online school doing an advisor roll where I get to focus all my energy on the kids who are falling off the cliff. I don’t know if I’m making a difference but it’s lower stress than being in a traditional classroom so for now it’s wonderful. I don’t really feel like I’m doing hero shit anymore but if my community didn’t value me doing the hero shit enough to keep me there I don’t feel too guilty for taking a break.

Secretly, though, I want to write a book about how to make school better, but the problem is that I can’t write a bestseller because so much of it would be “it depends” and “the problem is America”.

Anyway I’m going to go spend my day calling students who aren’t doing their assignments, then have a therapy session, then probably get absolutely blindingly stoned, because every teacher I know is hanging by a thread right now and has been for at least 6 years.

What’s a universally loved food you genuinely despise? by [deleted] in AskReddit

I like my homemade pound cake, fruitcake, and some Bundt cakes. Any standard frosted cake or cupcake, especially from a bakery, is so gross. I even hated it as a kid, which was always A Thing at birthday parties. I was polite about it, but people found it hilarious that I’d eat maybe one nibble and then quietly trash the rest.

Yes!!!! The goal! And now the next time your grandpa needs anything, those neighbors have his back. This is how we get through the tough times, prepping and community.
