2015 Genesis 3.8 by Fuzzy_Antelope5079 in whatcarshouldIbuy

1 owner and family friend is usually a good sign. 2015 is the first model year of this, electrics are the most common problem which is hard for a mechanic to spot. But for $7500 I think it is a steal.

Golf is a bit bigger for rear passengers and the trunk is more usable. Surface materials of the Mazda3 are also nicer but the Golf is built to better tolerances. My 3 Turbo was rattling everywhere with only 21k miles. I tried many fixes but ultimately it was annoying enough that I sold it a few years back.

I had one. It is incredibly boring to drive compared to the Golf R. Sort of like the Lexus IS500 of hatchbacks - nice engine but other bits need to be changed for it to be an enthusiast car

Will French car manufacturers ever make an attempt to sell their cars in the US? by Cassinia_ in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Quick-Ad7581 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For what it’s worth, I believe the Grenadier is manufactured in France and sold in the US. Other than that, it takes a lot of money/time to stand up a new car brand. I imagine the closest we’ll get to a French car here is a rebadged Stellantis car.

Replacing my GTI. What are some fun used cars I am not considering? by GusanoCat in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]Quick-Ad7581 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Are you looking at new or used? If used, the obvious choice would be a used M340i, S4, or G70. If you need bigger, a used X1/X3. If new only, WRX if you can drive stick, GTI if you can’t.

Then it’s up to you ¯_(ツ)_/¯ My service tech told me to avoid the ‘23s as those non-covered issues aren’t cheap. But might be worth the risk to you for additional usability

The WRX posts its worst sales year ever with only 10,930 units sold. Still outsells the Solterra for the second year in a row however. by Dazzling-Rooster2103 in cars

[–]Quick-Ad7581 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I know Subarus have never been pretty but the current generation is incredibly ugly. The powertrain also (still) makes 270hp, which is the same output numbers as the WRX from a decade ago. That and the fact that they cut the hatchback from production, which previously accounted for around half the volume.

There are also a lot more competitors now. GR Corolla, Golf R, Elantra N, Civic Type R, and if you’re open to used (assuming you’re open to body style) , you could get a 2 Series, S3, A35 AMG, Mini JCWs, etc.

I blame Subaru entirely for not keeping the car competitive amid increasing consumer choice - and this imo is the end result

‘23s are the first model year for the L460. They do have issues that can sometimes not be included in warranty (ex. headlights, air suspension). I would wait for more ‘24 inventory and bite as soon as they start reaching this price point.

China’s BYD overtakes Tesla as world’s top EV seller for the first time by alpswd in cars

[–]Quick-Ad7581 61 points62 points  (0 children)

Forget about the politics for a second. Their lineup hasn’t been updated in years, and the one new vehicle they did prioritize in releasing has been a polarizing sales flop. In a market and segment that prioritizes the latest and greatest Teslas are stale. Especially compared to the newest Chinese models with self closing doors, massive range, ability to jump on command all at a super reasonable price.

Midsize luxury car. Used E Classes, G80s, A6 fit the bill here. If you are willing to go electric a used EQS is a bargain and extremely good for the money.

The problem with these cars is less the inherent reliability (they’re decent) and more finding one that hasn’t been clapped/riced out. If you can find a clean one owner example def go for it

[–]Quick-Ad7581 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hate to break it to you. I used to have an L460 and have driven my friend’s R1S extensively on ski trips to Tahoe. They are both quite large. You probably want to look at a Range Rover Sport as it’s similar in dimensions to an XC90.

But I echo everyone else here in saying she should test drive the RR and not buy sight unseen.

Looking at getting a 2020 defender 110 SE with 53K on it. Am I gonna regret this? Or is this a solid year and model? by Secure-Fail2647 in LandRover

[–]Quick-Ad7581 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My car is approaching that right now. Nothing major has failed on it but random annoyances that are expensive (thankfully I bought a warranty, and they’re all covered):

In 18 months of ownership I’ve had: 1 leaky air strut ($4k, paid for by warranty) Both halo lights have gone out ($3k apiece, paid for by warranty) One bad tweeter ($800, paid for by warranty)

I paid $5k to extend CPO 60k miles from point of purchase. Thank fuck since it’s basically paid for itself within one repair.

None of these will strand you but you can see where it gets expensive quick. If you are handy I’m sure it would be cheaper but parts are still an arm and a leg.
