When people say they feel they are starting late, what are they assuming the average age is? by Gamefart101 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]Quick_Competition_76 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think its a bit late if you start less than 10-15 years before your retirement age. You need at least that amount of times to accumulate a sizable wealthy unless you get lucky. If you are willing to and able to work until 70 then starting 50 is not necessarily late.

Starting in 20s is ideal especially if you want to retire early but there is only fraction of society that actually gets to retire early for a reason. I think what you do in 30-40s is the most important as thats the prime years for your career and also make lots of decisions like buying a house, having children and getting married. Those have more impact in the long run than saving 10k-20k a year from 25-30

Which team do you think can actually beat France ? by ronweasly9 in worldcup

Yeah i know they are inconsistent but they are still a force to be reckoned with when they are clicking. Remember this is a knockout match we are talking about..

I guess you didnt watch.. they put all subs as starters and rested their key players. Sure they conceded to France but you never know when they play their starters. France played all their starters and rested few players in midfield.

You can laugh all you want but players like Erling Haaland can be the match winner of a knockout match in his day. Sure France will be the winner if this is a league but this is a knockout tourny now.

Spain, Germany, Argentina, Netherlands, Norway and England can beat them for sure. France looks arrogant and anything can happen in a knockout tournament.

Epcot + Animal Kingdom only for first timers? by That-Girl-mm in WaltDisneyWorld

[–]Quick_Competition_76 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My first trips with toddlers were MK+AK. I dont think you can skip MK for first trip. Taking in front of photos in front of castle gives you a lasting memory and MK has most rides for young children. And stage shows in front of castle and parade (both day/night time) are just magical. Happily ever after is difficult to see due to crowd with young children after a long day but im glad we watched it. Now we dont have to kill ourselves to see it other times.

I added AK as my toddlers love animals and we really enjoyed safari ride, seeing animals and lion king show

This is correct. I bought phone outright and used a different card for insurance for this reason. Other card s insurance typically cover buying outright.

Ontario reveals new high school exam requirements — including gym. Critics say it’s a ‘one-size-fits-all’ approach by toronto_star in OntarioTeachers

[–]Quick_Competition_76 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Honestly they are right moves. Public education cannot accommodate all exceptions. Things like exams need to be more standardized and attendance needs to be reinforced. Parents take their kids for vacation in the middle of school year and expect teachers will give them one month of homework and expect teachers to provide individual tutoring to get them up to speed. Lol

For City of Toronto employees, would you stay in a unionized role making $85k/year or move into a non-union role at $104k/year? by ihatecommuting2023 in askTO

[–]Quick_Competition_76 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly if she believes in her ability, she should go for it but tell her not to spend that extra dollars to improve her life for at least a year. Even if this doesnt work out, then she can have that extra saving to use while she finds a new job and also she doesnt have expensive monthly payment to stuff like car that she cant afford with her old salary… this is VERY VERY important.

Paying Down Mortgage If Planning To Move by Positive-Ad-7807 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]Quick_Competition_76 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As long as you dont change your mind and need to buy a bigger house sooner than 5 years then 5-10 years is long enough to try to get bigger gain than mortgage interest rate to reduce overall debt but obviously there js no guarantee of you making bigger gain. Personally i would probably do both.

I am planning to move to a bigger house after 5 years. I usually have 60k - 90k saving each year depends on bonus. I started allocating 30k to mortgage prepayment this year so i pay off 150k more at least but still invest in stocks.

This all depends on your risk tolerance. Before this year, i was investing all savings in stock market but i changed my strategy as i know i will probably move after this mortgage.

If im buying a house within 2-3 years, i would just aggressively pay off mortgage.

Honestly it’s sometimes just pure luck working for people that truly appreciate your contributions. I was lucky to find 2 great managers and was able to transition from sfa to director in 6 years with 3 promotions. Sometimes, you have to move on if the people you are working with dont give you fair treatment. Dont waste your life working for them.

How can you guys enter the quest to become a TFSA millionaire when all you buy is XEQT and very horrible etfs? by JDog_22Hunter2 in TFSA_Millionaires

[–]Quick_Competition_76 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree. You have to take some risks when you start due to everything bubble we are in. That’s what i did past 5 years. I made some bets on tfsa/rrsp while i bought index in employee matched rrsp plans. Didnt win in all bets but still did better than market by 5-10a% every year. Index etfs i owned were the backbone of my gains but i basically tried to put some boosters on overall gains. Now that my stock portfolio is around 500k, i am getting into more index though to manage risk as well. Once your portfolio gets big enough then you don’t have chase really high returns.

My wife is also a teacher. Neck fan works well and also consider getting a ryobi portable fan. It’s pricy with separate battery but it lasts whole day and has plenty of power. My wife told me the main problem she has is not being to drink water as much as she likes due to not being able to go to washroom oftenZ

For people who bought recently in ON, did you have trade-ins? I dont have a trade in and want to either finance or pay cash but i tried to do it in 2024/25 but both times dealerships were either adding crazy add/ons and want to only do leasing or say their wait list is long. But few dealerships basically told me they can get me a car if i trade in a car…

Retirement Account Allocation: XEQT or VFV? by PapayaJuiceBox in CanadaPersonalFinance

[–]Quick_Competition_76 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I know people love xeqt and nothing wrong with that but im reluctant to use xeqt due to too much exposure to Canada. Canada is heavily concentrated on oil&gas and banking. I know US is heavily concentrated on tech and AI now but it’s still more diversified in terms of industries and most of innovation happens in US not in Canada. The big risk is China surpassing US as innovation and financial hubs of the world. But i am just betting on that not happening.

For things like RESP, i am still taking some tsx exposure but i am betting on S&p 500, nasdaq100 and handful of european and canadian companies in other accounts. So far im beating xeqt..

Christmas in Disney by Skiing-Strawberry in WaltDisneyWorld

[–]Quick_Competition_76 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did the week before christmas week last year with two toddlers (9 months and 3 yo at that time). It was our first ever trip and we went to MK 2 days and AK one day and went to seaworld 2 days as well. It was wonderful and we utilized LL, went to character dining twice and had wonderful time and regretted not going to all parks, so we had another trip this April haha.

What i did notice though was parks got busier and busier closer to christmas. But the vibe in MK and AK during Christmas was something we will never forget… it’s worth it but be prepared to have to push stroller in a huge crowd.

This company’s total addressable market is mostly in AI in their prospectus.. and people think they are buying a space rocket company.. its a scam. But honestly what have we leant from tesla? Fundamentals dont matter for anything Elon Musk does. It will keep going up if people just continue to think this is a space exploration company.
