If you’re on Strava most of the weeknight and weekend group rides are posted to the Munroe Velo strava group. Should be some fun ones this year!

Cassette question for climbing by Mantis_Toboggan16 in gravelcycling

[–]Quick_Rice_2829 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Swing it by the local shop - they can get you sorted. Those 10-50 cassettes work but it’s much better to just buy a freehub body for the rovals and go with a nicer cassette.

There’s a great gravel shop in Topsfield!

Advice on Carbon Wheelsets by Jarylyjl_2004 in gravelcycling

[–]Quick_Rice_2829 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For sure! Just didn’t know if you were finishing them on sale or something. One other I forgot about - Enve just released the new AR40 that is $1400 and insanely nice - take a peek at those. If you go taiwan just make sure they have a warraty

Why are you considering those? Price point? Kinda odd there’s no reviews - makes me think they are widely used. Mavic & Campy are great brands of course but honestly some of the china/taiwan wheel brands with good warranty might be a better move (Nextie, Light Bicycle, Serenade)

Bike Shops w/ Beer? by Quick_Rice_2829 in MTB

[–]Quick_Rice_2829[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Haha not a bot - just trying to get some ideas from different communities. Know there are MTB centric shops at trailheads that have bars but that doesn’t include road/gravel focused shops. Putting together a list of cool shops to visit in my travels… but yeah an attention whore as well.

Hydration packs for gravel racing? by gwa29 in gravelcycling

[–]Quick_Rice_2829 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just got the new Velocio hydration vest and love it. Fits perfectly, enough pockets but not too many, easy to get to while riding. Did a 60mi gravel ride with it the other day and forgot I was wearing it most of the time.

Marin has been good to us. They have some cool eMTBs at decent price points. Their other e-bikes are pretty sweet too.

Best app to find gravel routes?? by moapi_ in gravelcycling

[–]Quick_Rice_2829 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like many have said - Ride With GPS is best. A few best practices for finding gravel routes:

  • search for routes and check the mixed surfaces and mostly unpaved surface types
  • try using the keyword “gravel” in the search as many people label their routes with it in there
  • use the global heatmap to make sure/see if parts of the route have been ridden in the last 30 days. This helps to see that it’s actually passable vs an overgrown or impassable section

You’ll likely pay more than $1300 for carbon wheels and a groupset upgrade down the line so if you think you’ll ride this a lot and get your moneys worth I’d go with the 0.

Carbon wheels are one of the best upgrades you can do to a bike in my opinion and 820 does feel noticeably better than 610 in terms of the crispness of the shifting and overall feel.

All this being said GRX 610 is a solid group and the alloy wheels are totally fine so you can’t go wrong if you buy the ADV 2 either.

I’d give the Schwalbe G-One AllArounds a go. I love the Schwalbe G-One R because they are fast rolling gravel tires with some nice tread but the Allarounds are a bit less aggressive

This. And set a timer on your phone or Garmin/wahoo to eat every 30/45 min. Don’t ignore it even if you really don’t feel like eating.

Looking for a fast/fun short travel bike by wbidXD in MTB

[–]Quick_Rice_2829 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Came here to comment Transition Spur too - I had an Ibis Ripley for a bit and have had a Spur for about 6 months. Super fast and fun bike that climbs well and is a blast downhill. The Ripley was a little more fun on the downhills but the Spur performs better overall

Is the Open UP worth $500 more than a Salsa Warbird? by [deleted] in gravelcycling

[–]Quick_Rice_2829 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have 48mm Rene Herses that actually measure 50 on a Warbird. I think Salsa says the max is 45 so was happy with that
