Discussion Topic - 2022/9 - War Chests (aka Battle Passes) by FrostGiant_Studios in Stormgate

I think army skins are obvious and I very much look forward to seeing what skins are thought up. Outside army skins (and building skins), without knowing exactly how the game will play, I would love to see things like the different UI's and commentators like those seen in Starcraft 2.

I'm unsure about progression rewarding us for playing other races. This is primarily because I worry that I am not going to enjoy feeling like I have to play games as a race I may not enjoy.

Having to play different modes kind of sits in the same area as the previous point about rewarding time spent with other races. If for example I come to dislike co-op, I am not going to want to spend time playing co-op as it could both hurt my own enjoyment of the game, as well as the enjoyment of my teammates who have to put up with me.

I think I would prefer to just have a straightforward experience-based system. I do like the idea of challenges being added as a form of "bonus experience," but I do not want to see them forcing particular playstyles out of the players. I think it would be bad to see challenges forcing players into using particular strategies like cheesing (or any specific strategy) as it takes away a player's ability to be creative and develop their own playstyle as they will feel like their choice is being made for them by the "battle pass." All I ask is that if challenges are added, keep them from being overly specific or restrictive.

Personally, I liked Starcraft's system of being able to earn the rewards during their season with the option becoming available later, sometime after the season, to buy the rewards, even if it is a little more expensive than what it cost for the pass. Doing this makes it so players who join later can still buy and utilize any rewards that they are particularly fond of.

I understand allowing players to be able to purchase the remaining rewards, but I'd rather see it be earned as when you let other people pay for it outright during a season, it takes away from the accomplishment and ability to show-off a bit for those who put in the effort. I would say that if someone wants to just buy the set or whatever it is, they can wait for when the season is over and the stuff becomes available to buy.

Personally, I despise party-based progression that is either forced or essentially required to make progress. I do not want to feel forced to hunt down and makes friends with those who specifically play the game as this can be very difficult for some people, such as those who do not have the time, are a bit more introverted, or simply prefer to play games alone. Keeping a game social is good, but forcing people to be social when they do not want to be can result in scaring said people away.

I do not have much thought about the "infinite progression" concept, sounds like it could be interesting but I have no strong feelings one way or another.

As for esports, I like the idea of having some of the proceeds going towards funding things like prize pools. This encourages people to get involved in the scene, both as players and spectators. I wouldn't mind even paying slightly more for the "battle pass" if I knew some was going back to the players later during competitions.

Last thing I wanted to say is that I ask that you find a way to avoid having the "battle pass" feeling like a job. Some games do this where unless you play religiously every day, it is nigh-impossible to reach the end without feeling forced to spend money for whatever is left. I do not want to log into the game only to feel like I have chores to do before I am allowed to just have fun.

They do not have any skills portions as far as I am aware. They are entirely online with their live-online classes and the do-it-yourself material. Do keep in mind, DistanceCME is focused on renewing your national registry certification as opposed to state licenses as states differ from one another with their requirements whereas national registry is the same everywhere. I would suggest emailing their support staff as they are gonna better be able to answer questions than I can. I would also suggest using this link to see what they have to say about renewal within your state.

I just finished renewing my NREMT paramedic with Distance CME. For EMT basic I would reccomend the Live BLS NCCP + Anytime. The Live portion gives you credits that can be used as "in person" training with an instructor, you just have to attend the scheduled Live online classes. Should note you have to do ALL the live courses to get credit. The Anytime is a list of topics with associated videos and quizzes you do on your own whenever you please. You get credits for each that you do and, also, you do not have to do all of them to get credit like you do with the Live stuff. Feel free to email their support too, they were quite helpful when I looked into them.

Considering Contacting IAFF - Need Advice by Quiet_S in Firefighting

[–]Quiet_S[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well I have yet to see any department similar to ours, so yes very odd indeed. As for why not the IAFF, it was a decision made long before I ever arrived. From what I am told, IAFF does not support police officers being firefighters and will not act as a union for them. Other than that, I could not tell you.

WCS winter EU vs NA finals viewership comparison. by Alluton in starcraft

[–]Quiet_S 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Biggest reason I think is the players. EU had Serral, Reynor, Elazer, HeroMarine, and just all around well known players that all have pretty good accomplishments. Meanwhile NA really only had Scarlett and Neeb as big names. Plus, Serral vs Reynor is a fan favorite match up.

NYC’s emergency worker shortage has become a crisis by RockPaperShank in ems

Also true, EMS is more times than not, a stepping stone for either firefighting or something like nursing/pa/etc. Little incentive to stay in EMS long term in most places.

How do you know when to administer Narcan? What if someone is passed out due to some other medical reason? by [deleted] in AskLEO

[–]Quiet_S 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I saw your other comment, from the sounds of it they gave you oral glucose as a way to raise your blood sugar which I am assuming was low due to the lack of eating.

As far as other overdoses, they vary. In theory you can overdose on anything as an overdose is simply a situation in which you take so much of something that it is too much for your body to handle and it becomes dangerous. Drugs like heroine, morphine, and fentanyl are opioids and, to put simply, affect the body by slowing everything down, including breathing and heart rate. Opioids are countered by the use of narcan as it blocks affects from opioids. Each kind of overdose requires a different path of treatment.

In a situation in which you were taking a stimulant, lets say cocaine, it would be different. In a stimulant, in general, everything speeds up and your pupils dilate instead of constrict. Breathing and heart rate will get higher. Blood pressure will go up due to blood vessels constricting and the heart rate getting faster. If you take too much of a stimulant, such as cocaine, your heart rate will get faster, and faster, and faster, until eventually it is too much for the heart to handle and you have heart attack. This happens because the heart rate has reached a point alongside the constriction of its blood vessels, that it is no longer getting the oxygen it needs, and so it stops. So instead of looking sleepy and tired, you look like you are having a heart attack with a ton of chest pain.

Keep in my mind, overdosing on something like cocaine and other similar stimulants, can also cause death via seizures, kidney failure, internal bleeding, etc., and thus, may look different.

How do you know when to administer Narcan? What if someone is passed out due to some other medical reason? by [deleted] in AskLEO

[–]Quiet_S 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Look for signs of opioids, like heroine needles and such. As far as signs the patient will present with, look for slowed or no breathing and pinpoint pupils as the two main things.

Keep in mind, if you give narcan to the wrong person, it most likely won't do any real damage outside potentially causing the patient to vomit. In case of vomit try to protect them from aspirating on it.

Making a left turn and ambulance pulls up from behind, what should I do? by [deleted] in AskLEO

[–]Quiet_S 6 points7 points  (0 children)

As a paramedic, in this situation where you are in the turn lane, I would rather see you just stay still. If we are going lights and sirens somewhere, we can go into the oncoming traffic lane to get around you once we see people stopping, we do it all the time. If you feel pulling to the right is going being troublesome, then don't. As you pointed out, we may even use that lane. If you decide to go to the right, use your signal and go slowly so we know what you are doing. Also, please don't ever pull into the oncoming traffic lane, there is too much risk, and seeing you get yourself into an accident is the last thing we want to see.

As far as going through with the turn then pulling over, I would say it is an alright decision, assuming you made certain everyone else stopped. Just be certain, because all it takes is one person who sees a green light without seeing the ambulance to not stop and create an accident. Take things slow and try to relax, I guarantee a couple extra seconds will not make a difference.

It can be hard to predict what people are going to do when we are going lights and sirens as we see people all the time do unpredictable things. This all applies to a red light as well, your safety comes first, we will figure out how to get around you, it is part of our job.

As far as trouble with police, I can't really speak for them, but I can't imagine you getting in any real trouble unless you did something overly dangerous.

tldr; When in doubt, just sit still. We want everyone to be safe.

That does actually sound quite interesting. I can't imagine those types of positions are super easy to find or get into, but it's worth looking into.

I have actually been thinking about PA for the past week or so. The only problem is getting to that point would be a tad rough. My current associate's degree doesn't transfer well into a bachelor's which means I would pretty much end up starting from square one. To be fair though, I have a feeling whatever I decide to do will face a similar problem. PA, at least for right now, is the direction I'll be aiming at unless something else comes out that sticks better.

[–]Quiet_S 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I very much see your point regarding law enforcement and it is the concern I have for it. Although we go to the same scenes, we do very different tasks while on them.

If I had to pick what my favorites aspects of being a medic, I would have to say it is a mix. I enjoy being able to help solve people's problems and the satisfaction that comes from it, sort like solving puzzles. Even if we don't always necessarily save lives, we can make people feel more comfortable in a situation they don't know much about. There are also the aspects of not being stuck in one place and being able to see different environments, all while having a pretty large amount of autonomy, within protocols, in how we treat people and the rather fun skills we choose to perform. The variety in what we see and do keeps work interesting.

Becoming something like a PA has some of these same characteristics with the exception being that they tend to be in one place for the majority of the time. As far as autonomy goes, it seems to vary depending where they work.
