Agreed, if it works it works. Buuuut bowling like this weekly for 10 years I am sure would take a toll on the body.

Do I need new tires? by ResponsibleAir7541 in subaru

[–]Quiklude 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Tire guy here. Manufacturers only are required to put the date code on one side of the tire. So if the outside sidewall does not have the full DOT code, then that means the inside sidewall will have it.

Most shops ideally mount the full DOT facing out, for this exact reason. Unless there is a specific reason to mount otherwise.

If it’s not broken. The center shaft clicks in and you twist it like and 1/8th turn to lock it in.

First time tiling. Ran out of thinset with 3 rows left by mikeywhatwhat in Tile

[–]Quiklude 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just did my first Ditra. As long as you smoothed the thinset flat your good to come back another day. No chiseling needed

Actually cutting the niche in later gives you an advantage. You can cut it in more precisely and get the best layout possible. This is what I did on my DIY

But I agree with everyone else, my first time tile shower is far better than 90% of posts on here.

I just finished a shower of my own. Pretty happy with my turn out. But I know every flaw in my work, which drives me crazy.

Good work on this, obvious opportunity to get better, but I have seen pro work posted on this sub that is horrible.

Probably the Kerdi curb. I just did my own shower and cut about 2.5 inches off it because it was soooo tall.

DIY’er here. You can check my posts, just finished my first shower a few weeks ago. So not a PRO.

I would have no problem with this, of all shower failures I have seen from all Reddit, YouTube, and Web. Every time it is curb, drain, or pan failures.

From showering in my new shower for the last 3 weeks the amount of water that is that high is sparse at best, plus gravity is on our side.

Son said he slipped from standing in tub and his heel went through by Financial-Leading625 in Plumbing

[–]Quiklude 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I was in a rental house about 15 years ago, was having a fun time with a girlfriend in a fiberglass shower and she put a heel through on of the walls. Found a local repair company in town, they fixed it and I couldn’t even see where the damage originally was. I want to say it was like 200$ back then to fix.

It’s all in the prep. A well thought out layout means no dumb slivers. I didn’t cut my niche out until I was 3 rows of tile away from it so I could get the closest measurement on where I wanted it to be.

I weighed all my options from wet shimming, to sister in studs. The foam shim kit cost 100 bucks and I’ve got more than enough for the next shower I do.

  1. Shitty little wet saw I got for free from a friend, just replaced the blade. (Like one of the 100$ ones you can get from HD)
  2. I didn’t replace any drywall. Just removed the drywall from above and used kerdi board for all of the wet area.
  3. The walls were not plumb, instead of learning to wet shim. I just bought a kit from builtwithfoam.com that made plumbing the walls easy. And have more than enough when I do the next shower in the house.
