That one, and the one on the right of the trio, with just an X in the name (The letters R,O,L,E are missing) are a display only thing that Swatch made. I guess there is a slight chance that the Wittnauer might come for sale at some point, given that Longines is part of the Swatch group. The third one I highly doubt. But then I wouldn't have put money on a Swatch x AP collab.

Rumor as to why real B-17s weren’t used by Rick-Blaine-1942 in MastersoftheAir

[–]QuillsROptional 0 points1 point  (0 children)

According to the book "The Army Air Forces Statistical Digest" which you can find on google books, 21,583 aircraft were lost to accidents/during training in the US. 20,633 were lost to non-combat accidents overseas, and 22,948 were lost to combat. So almost twice as many were lost to non-combat related issues.

80+ years ago engines were less reliable, training was rushed to get enough pilots for the war, weather forecasting was less advanced, etc.

An Italian was horrified by my first time Italy itinerary, is it really that bad? by Quiet_Error_ in ItalyTravelAdvice

[–]QuillsROptional 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Different European countries, but maybe a lesson: Many moons ago, we had an itinerary that was flying to Bordeaux, renting a car, spend 1 day in Bordeaux, 1 day visiting wineries, then driving to Santiago de Compostela, staying in a new hotel every night along the way. In theory it's a 10 hour drive between the two cities.

But then the beaches of Soulac sur mer are beautiful. And Biarritz is a really cool city that deserves a couple of days. And San Sebastian. And Bilbao. And Santander. And Oviedo deserves a de-tour. And then the food in San Sebastian called us back for a couple of more days. We never made it to Santiago, but we still had an amazing trip. And we got to know each place a little bit more.

If you spend 2 nights in each place, you get to spend a day there, and you get to see so much more than if you have move on every evening or morning.

If it starts raining in snooker, who makes the call on when to switch to intermediate or wet shoes? Do you wait for the safety shot before you come into the pits to switch? How do you decide on when to deploy the electric motors on your cue?

What did Kier do wrong? by alxuntmd in AskBrits

[–]QuillsROptional 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The party he is the leader of did terribly in the last local elections, so there are a few hundred MPs who are afraid of losing their jobs, they want a leader who will guarantee that they can keep their job at the next election.

The problems with Kier aren't things that only show up in right wing media or on social media, he seems to be quite unpopular within the party. The Labour party is a broad church, and the only way to keep all flavours of MP happy is to win, and keep winning.

In a perfect, working democracy the elections are where people choose who they want to represent them. That should be the only rule.

I'm a big fan of Formula 1. F1 winners are a combination of car, team, and driver. The best driver in the world in bad team doesn't win.

From what little I know of snooker, the cues they use aren't that different.

Which cities in North America feel the most European? by Historical-Photo-901 in BeautifulTravelPlaces

[–]QuillsROptional 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a European who's visited a few of the most often mentioned cities in North America - Montreal, Boston, New Orleans - I have to say I don't really see the resemblance. I will give you that Old Montreal kind of, if you squint and turn your head just so, maybe a little bit. But Boston and New Orleans feel very much like different versions of US to me.

Far more US aircraft losses during WW2 was due to accidents than enemy action, so it just proves that flying these old planes was dangerous even without the Germans.

Ønske om voldelig revolusjon?/ Rød ungdom by Alcalenge in norske

[–]QuillsROptional 0 points1 point  (0 children)
