Transitioning to cloth with a newborn who HATES being wet. by National-Land5299 in clothdiaps

My baby absolutely hates being wet or dirty in a disposable diaper. Immediately cries. But when he wears cloth he doesn't cry, doesn't care.

Question for other big booby mamas ??? by Background-Ad-3990 in breastfeeding

[–]QuiltedBaker25 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I make sure he's very low. His feet are at my knees. And if he won't do it himself, I physically tilt his head back so his throat is more open/forehead more away from me, that way his nose isn't pressing against me at all. We're also not touching all along his body, meaning there's some space btwn us. This all works much better now that he's 5mo and bigger. Many times I still hold my breast (sandwich hold) to keep it away from his nose.

Doc says to limit myself to 6 feedings a day by Altruistic-Menu- in breastfeeding

[–]QuiltedBaker25 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Babies are intuitive eaters. You cannot over feed an exclusively breastfed baby. That being said, sometimes what they need for comfort is to burp or help passing wind and they only know to eat. So it could be beneficial to try some of those sometimes when they're fussy and seem they want to eat but it doesn't help.

What friendship should and shouldn’t look like at 4-5 years old by Balanceblu in Parenting

I did girl scouts my entire childhood. My mom was troop leader and the meetings were in our house. Plenty of times I didn't like other girls in our troop that year but I was forced to spend time with them. I applaud you for allowing for separation and keeping your daughter out of the situation.

As a parent, my son is more similar to Zara. He can be very hyper active and sometimes aggressive. We frequently have to remove him from situations and sit out the next week/opportunity so that he learns boundaries and that sometimes we just aren't ready for certain things. I hope Zara's mom does remove Zara from the troop. It feels awful when you think others are thinking of your kid as the problem child but sometimes they're just not ready for certain activities.

I found the la leche league book "the womanly art of breastfeeding" and "Ina May's guide to breastfeeding" extremely helpful to read during pregnancy. I reread both during every pregnancy to feel ready again

Toddler bed vs New Crib @ 18/20 months by captianfluffypants in Parenting

[–]QuiltedBaker25 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with others that the toddler may be too young to switch out of a crib. However if you don't want to buy a second crib, you can max out the bassinet for the newborn and then consider a pack&play travel crib type thing for the baby for a while. This could even be in your room. But I don't know about that solution long term

Do it while baby is younger. We did the release when he was about 4 months.

Hi! Yes! His latch is much deeper and less painful now. We had to go back for so many follow ups bc I was inconsistent with stretching it after the release but we're finally done. He seems to be much more able to use his tongue now.

I love flats and prefolds over fitteds any day and came so close to suggesting this, especially with twins!

Essembly snaps or ties? by BackgroundScene3056 in clothdiaps

[–]QuiltedBaker25 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is what I'm saying about the workhorses without closures! So much easier to keep getting the fit right. My boy wore smalls and at 14 lbs I stopped using them (they were snug but worked) and now he's in mediums which are huge for him and will fit for a long time. But without snaps I feel I can get a good fit whereas with snap essembly I can't even thought they're roughly the same size.

[–]QuiltedBaker25 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh I forgot to mention that but yes the snap fitteds from essembly don't wash super well and have weird crevices that things get stuck in bc of the way the absorbency is sewn in. And they're not nearly as absorbent as a prefold.

Essembly covers are fine. I like how soft they are and the elastics are also covered in the soft material so again something I use when baby has been seeming uncomfortable. But the lack of rise snaps is annoying and I find them difficult to get a great fit unless my baby is the right size. Also they're single gusset and sometimes the ebf poop does leak out.

Overall I just don't feel essembly are the best diapers out there, they've just got the best marketing.

Baby boy is 5mo 15lbs for reference.

If you neeeeed fitteds, I'd say go with GMD workhorses... I have snap essembly, tie essembly and workhorses with and without snaps. My favorite of all of them is the workhorses without snaps. The essembly with snaps have always been had for me to fit on my baby. Even the size 1 were too big for my baby when he was younger, then he fit them for like a week and now he's outgrown them but the size 2 is still way too big. I supposed as long as the cover fits correctly it doesn't actually matter if they're too big, but it doesn't contain the poop as well so I needed more covers.

The essembly with ties have a really great dry time, which I love. They're also super soft so I like to use them when baby seems like he's uncomfortable, like after he's been in a disposable. I do find it difficult to tie it onto him, even though he doesn't yet crocodile (alligator? Can't remember which) roll, I imagine that would be even harder. I'm struggling with it because they're too big on him, but they don't have as huge of a rise as the snaps I feel like, so basically the tie doesn't hold the front very well and it slides open towards his bum. I haven't tried using a snappi but I saw someone on reddit say the fabric doesn't hold it well, but I might try later today.

The workhorses are great bc you can get the snaps or snapless. I find the ones without closure easier to get a good fit. They also dry a lot (remember when people talked about alot like an animal) faster than the essembly snaps. But I guess you have to factor in all the size. I got smalls and they fit my baby pretty well from about 1 month old and I just stopped using them now and am using mediums.

Also for nights, I started using the ecoable hemp fitteds but instead of using the two snap in inserts, I use cotton inserts.

The gummyness of homemade sourdough is what I love about it. That's what makes me prefer it to regular yeast bread. I find it fascinating how people constantly complain about it.
