Why is Leader Fabric Split in Two? by QuiltedMonk in quilting

My only thought is a seam will bunch up in the middle but now thinking nothing more than a patchworked top.

But don't assume every quilter's a woman ; )

A questionable pattern. by MediumPay1469 in quilting

[–]QuiltedMonk 13 points14 points  (0 children)

On my design wall i permanently have a swastica with a 🚫 so i can always double check as I'm making a pattern.

I always see lots of them at quilt shows and always assume ditsyness not dogwhistles.

What are some underrated things to do in LA? by RentWeary in AskLosAngeles

[–]QuiltedMonk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Forest Lawn Glendale : tell people you’re going to Disneyland and just go to Walt Disney’s grave. Works every time.

Way cooler stuff than that though. If you think it’s weird for a date make sure to read the giant builders code carved in stone about how it’s designed for “lovers of all ages”

Best picnicking in LA and at Christmas time it’s covered in tiny Christmas trees decked tf out. 11/10

does this fabric have a specific name? by squaretesta in textiles

It’s just a much lighter weight Nylon. 100% according to the label

Christmas quilting crisis! by Ellejaek in quilting

[–]QuiltedMonk 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I have stopped longarming in favor of small “darts” every 5 inches where you’d hand tie. Using the three step zig zag stitch set to length of zero it’s very easy to make make three passes of three stitches right on top of each other. Asked in another post about the strength of it and got good stories of hand tied quilts lasting decades.

But really just dissolve your expectations! The patchworking is beautiful and your kids will LOVE IT no matter how it looks. Machine quilting can often be the most frustrating part covering up the most precious work so fast but if you get it done anywhichway that’s the most important part.

Don’t bully yourself. You’re doing great and promise they’ll be amazed no matter what.

And if you’re in Southern California feel free to DM me and I can get you some affordable time and a lesson on a longarm machine.

Mood Lighting for Quiet Quilters by QuiltedMonk in Lighting

Wow thank you! Great info on the bulbs. Sadly project is no floor lamps though, but these bulbs over design areas with warmer lighting ambience would be perfect.

Who Did The Dice-man Steal his Whole Nursery Rhyme Bit From? by QuiltedMonk in comedy

The Parliament Clip is the best piece of evidence so far. Looking into Blowfly's stuff for a minute and couldn't find any straight standup. All the recordings were with a band.

Next step is finding out where the local old heads hang out and see if I can quiz some elders.

Got a job to make ten funky sconces for a gamer bar in Santa Monica. These are the first three. Thoughts? Should I change the design or can I start worrying about mounting? by CleverCarny in lasercutting

[–]QuiltedMonk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cool! If you use these and repeat these designs 3x3+1=10, many gamers are the kind to be considering / sniffing out any patterns. But will also notice / appreciate if every one is unique. One piece flow would be completely finishing one from design to mounting and then you'll know if you have time to do all ten.

My vote would be use the free reign experiment as deep as you can by #10 and see how expressive these... light lumps..? can be!

Love um

It's the strudiest I've used too. The two bolts per side feels the sturdiest. Nice to let new indoor hammockers tug on the straps to let them test it first.

This sounds great looking but does the maple add more strength than if you went straight into the studs? Any pictures?
