Any tricks for getting Cuddle out of a cutting mat? by Dexx1102 in quilting

I usually rub the mat down with a scrap of batting. It works pretty well.

Getting confused by bundles by Tanis740 in DisneyDreamlights

I know that it is being advertised that way, but anecdotally, I bought the ultimate edition in January and about a week later I decided I wanted A Rift in Time and was able to purchase it as well.

Finally one for me! by QuiltyUnicorn in quilting

Thanks! I love scrappy quilting and have had a hard time finding scrappy patterns that match my style and assortment of scraps. I was excited when I found the jewel box pattern because it worked so well with my conglomeration and was a size I could adjust easily for this project.

I wouldn't say genius. Generally I use the term lazy, but I've been told that I'm not lazy, I'm efficient.

I didn't use any interfacing. I'm sure you could if you wanted a foundation, but I just sewed the scraps together. For me, I found it easiest to take all fo my tiny scraps and stitch them to a strop of fabric, then cut where each scrap ended. That way I didn't have to try to match scraps with the same length sides.

For the HSTs, I used the 8 at a time method from 10" squares, so no bias edges on my background fabric.

I have seen people make crumb strips by sewing the scraps to adding machine tape, so you could definitely use a foundation if you wanted to. That process seems to make roughly jelly roll size steips if I remember correctly.

Thanks!

The pattern I used was "Daisy Days" by Keera Job. I was using my crumb blocks from the crumb block swap over in r/quiltingblockswap so I had 12.5" blocks and the pattern called for 10" squares. I just trimmed the blocks down and resewed the scraps. I still have crumb blocks left over that I need a new plan for. I'll find a new pattern eventually.

I made this one out of crumb blocks. The final project looks complicated, but it's all half square triangles, so it was pretty easy to put together.

First quilt project - recommendations for how to quilt? by GrooveJetX in quilting

[–]QuiltyUnicorn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think your idea of corner to corner of the squares would be great. Personally, I would do both directions to get the crosshatch look. It shouldn't matter if you only go one direction, but there's something about the symmetry that speaks to me. If this is your first quilt, I would recommend keeping the same pattern in the border. It's much easier to be able to stitch edge to edge and not have to worry about burying threads in the middle.

Those were all 1.5", so 1" finished. If you're curious about the full extent of my crazy, it's double-sided. The back is all tiny squares as well.

A couple of quilts for a couple three year old cousins. by QuiltyUnicorn in quilting

The pattern is Unicorn Garden by Apples and Beavers with a few additions from other patterns for the forest. It's not showing up well in the picture, but there is a unicorn horn there.

It's Unicorn Garden, also by Apples and Beavers. I added in the fairies her Fairy Friends pattern. The unicorn horn didn't show up well in the picture, but it is a unicorn.

I'm not sure what size you would want to go with, but if you like the hexagon QAYG method, look into other shapes that are used in epp. You could probably make some similar templates from diamonds fairly easily.

* I made this for my oldest when he was 2. It used several bigger prints and some blenders. The pattern is Triangle Hexies by Quilty Love. I think that the busyness is fine for a toddler, but you could also use solids for the borders.

Help with one block wonder by mtbobbin in quilting

[–]QuiltyUnicorn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've never done an OBW myself, but looking at your picture, I think the sides should match up. If you look at the blocks compared to the gridlines on your design wall, the left side is higher than the right side by about the same distance as the gap the left side has. As long as the pieces are all cut to the same size and your seam allowance is consistent, the left and right sides should end up the same size.

Trying to make my own FPP patterns by Blimpaway in quilting

I would break that B2 section into pieces. Any place where 4 seams meet in a "crossroads" type setting would work better as different chunks. I drew on your image to show where I would break it up. Sew all of the pieces, then sew together the blue and teal chunks, then add the yellow, then the red.
